Clegg wanted a referendum in exchange for propping them up. Was refused PR the only decent option but as LD were so power hungry they caved and had one on AV which they knew wasn’t really any better and would never win. It’s the forgotten referendum

The German system is not bad either. Which we, along with the other tripartite powers the US, France and mainly Germans, helped construct, and had to sign off on before it was allowed to be implemented, after the war.
It was designed in such a way that what happened in the 30's could never happen again.
Pity it wasn't installed here. Because it's certainly feasible for it to happen (a very British coup)...given the looseness of our constitutional arrangements.

They won't have too. The present government have already have the Covid emergency powers act....together with Henry V111 powers to push through other things...80+ majority and four years of fixed term Parliament before an election, with total acquiescent back benchers
If as some people believe, that the combination of the virus and no deal will could bring meltdown and chaos, well, maybe a State of Emergency will be required....The Queen will sign that act, because she signs what is put in front of her, and by then it would be a situation beyond the constitutional crisis it would cause if she refused.
A very highly unlikely scenario, but given the lack of brakes by which to control the executive and the current bunch playing a form Democratic dictatorship. Because there is no way to stop them...Who knows.

That list is nonsense:
1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 are not the case in the UK.

1 because less than 30% of the country voted to leave the EU
4 Clearly not
5 clearly not
6 No, yes most of the media are aligned with the tories, but in no way shape or form are they controlled by the government, see cummings reporting, for an example.
7 We have just reformed the I&S committee for 7 months we have had no one guiding MI5, MI6 and GCHQ
8 Clearly not
9 Corporate powers are not protected unless you contribute to the tory party and that is covered in cronyism
11 clearly not
12 Our Judicial system is so atomic from other parts of society it would take a major bill through parliament to change that. Also see how little we invest in the judiciary

The poster clearly says at the top ‘early signs of fascism’.

It is a warning. Things to watch out for, to beware of in a political party or movement.

Fascism didn’t just happen overnight in 1930’s Germany.

It is perhaps easier to look at America and apply these tests to the Tea Party ➡️ GOP ➡️ Trump and things like voter suppression, lies, deception etc then look at the links to here with Bannon, Farage, breitbart, Matthew Elliot and the tufton Street influence. We are a little proto fascist state in the making if we are not vigilant or too complacent. When you don’t speak out about, say racism, you enable it. The ERG are our Tea Party, Boris our Trump.

I don't disagree reform is required, however to say we are in the early stages of becoming a fascist state are clearly nonsense. What we do have is an electorate that don't care enough to become politically engaged, and solving just that problem would help enormously.

Nazi Germany came about because of the ridiculous financial sanctions placed on them after the first world war. They were ripe for Hitler or indeed anyone else who was prepared to blame someone, the people were already beaten down, and just needed rebuilding.

Weimar had recovered from Versailles after a shaky start, it was the financial crash and political misjudgements that let Hitler in.
