I have a browse on the Sunderland forum now and again. When it comes to the Boro the way the majority speak about us is pretty embarrassing. However, I came across this post from a mackem. His post reads as follows:
Fwiw Tripper, I think some on here are 'mag like' in their views on other teams including Boro, which is very strange given we haven't won a major trophy since 1973 and have played the sum total of four games in Europe. Since I began supporting the lads mid 60s, I'd say Boro have been more "successful" than us, and you are bound to have smaller crowds than us given the smaller population catchment area. That period in the 90s to noughties where you built the new stadium, got to 3 finals iirc and had big name players coming through the door totally upstaged us which was of course hard to take for us Safc fans as the mags were doing the same. Last night, you deserved the win, the crowd of 30k+ was excellent given your faltering start to the season (as well as population catchment area prevly mentioned), and the atmosphere generated was great . Your celebration of the win was exactly what we do when we beat the mag scum and probably lasts ten times longer tbf. Quite why so many on here are rattled by your joyous celebration of beating your derby rivals is absurd, and so what if the players came round applauding your excellent vocal support - why the feck shouldn't they ?? We didn't perform as we have been doing recently, so it wasn't a great game but I'm sure we will both be top half come May, not sure about top 6, but you never know . I'd be more than happy for us to be first and yous second - never thought I'd say this after 1975 cup loss when Hicktons penalties knocked us out and this 14yo lad detested Boro for years to come ! Got no time for that ****** Teeside Steve, but happy to engage with sensible lads of any opposition.
It's taken a long time, but I think I've finally found a sensible Sunderland supporter. Can't disagree with any of that.
