9 points from the play offs

Looking at the fixtures, I've just realised we could be 9 points off the play offs before our next game šŸ˜®

Let's hope there's some slip ups along the way!

Do you really want us to go up?

We had a better team last season, yet still miles behind Burnley in quality, look at them struggling week in week out in the Premier league.

If by some miracle we went up, we would need at least 8-9 new quality players, ( which we cannot afford), not 8-9 young prospects.

We need another season in the Championship.

I said on another thread this week, if we can keep a play off spot challenge going until the death (but miss out) then the season has been a half decent success in my opinion.

I say that taking into consideration the overhaul in players, of which the majority had never really been tested at this level or in this league in particular, as wells as one of the most horrific injury lists I can remember in all my time time following us.

Overall to finish say 8th, a couple of points outside of the playoffs would be a respectable outcome, with a squad that should be much more capable of a playoff challenge next season after having spent a year together.

In all honesty I dont think we are ready for a promotion.

Weā€™d have Ā£90 million to build if we went up plus the ability to retain Rogers and Hackney. If we stay down weā€™d likely have to sell them off and use the money to buy players that might develop into players as good as those two. So Iā€™d yes, I 100% want to go up.

I always want us to go up.

As for not being ready for the Premier League, it's nigh on impossible to build a PL ready team in the Championship. Anytime you unearth or develop a PL level player, they will be picked off by a PL club. The best you can hope for is that you can sell players for big profits (I'm talking Ā£20m+ not a few million) so that you can reinvest and improve the team. Brentford managed to do that but it took 4-5 years, not 1 or 2.

If we did go up, of course we would need to bring in quality, but that is easier to do with Ā£100m in the bank and PL football to offer potential signings. I'd be much more confident in our ability to identify talent next time around compared to the Karanka season.

For what it's worth, I think we might not quite be good enough to win the playoffs this season - although I'm 100% confident we'll be in them - but if we do get a chance at promotion, we should do everything possible to grab it.

I agree. I much prefer being in the championship and being unable to beat teams like Rotherham. Beating Chelsea the other week was boring

As above, we're nowhere near good enough to go up yet but...If we went up it would mean from now til May we've had a hell of a season and it'll be a great experience as a fan winning lots of games and winning at Wembley. That's what we all do this for, dont we?

Carrick then gets a "war chest" and his contacts throughout the game will be more likely to answer the phone when he's managing a PL side.

We'd only have to finish above three teams to survive.

No promoted championship team is ever ā€œreadyā€ to go up with the exception of previously relegated clubs. How do you become on of those previously relegated clubs? By getting promoted in the first place and using the money to build.

I hope we go up but itā€™s looking like we need to strengthen too many positions to be a real threat. I think we look OK at goalkeeper, but even there we could have been in trouble having our number 1 and 2 keepers on International calls.

I would like Boro to try and ensure that we are ready from the start of kickoff in August 2024/25 season with all decent cover for all positions, preferably with Boro owned players, only having loans as a backup.

Commercially it's a no brainer - aim will be to go up as quickly as possible (even if the strategy/plan doesn't necessarily follow that).

Even if we get battered week in week out and come straight back down the financial impact would be massive so I'm all for it.

A miss is as good as a mile.

You get the same nonsense arguments every season.

Having another season in the Championship would have absolutely no benefit to the club.

We want to get up as soon as we can, however we can.

Even if we beat Derby's record for fewest points, we'd be better off than we are now.

Some people were saying we needed another season in the Championship last season too, and now we're a worse team in every single way except possibly at goalkeeper.

I will NEVER ever understand this "its too soon" and "lets wait until next season" mentality some fans have. If we don't go up we could lose several players and the whole process starts again.

Even if we do go up and get pumped, we come down with a significantly stronger squad than we would ever have had otherwise and significantly improved spending power.
