8 year 6 month for murder

What would be a deterrent? 10 years, 15 years, 20 years? I don't think those who carry knives care about a prison sentence. Others might think that being locked up for 23 hours a day for 8 and a half years is a deterrent. To me 6 months in prison would be a deterrent.

I think there's definitely a deterrent to be had ..
Minimum 5 for possession
Minimum of ten years for any knife crime .
And 15 minimum for assault with ..

Part of the ' socials gangster ' thing is your probably not going away for you're first knife crime ...

Interestingly here’s a case of an 8 year old from Stockton who completed an 8 year sentence after being found guilty of murder. He had attempted the same crime a year earlier but the child was found and survived. He was caught when trying to lure a third child to the same place the other two were found. He was rehabilitated and learned a trade before being released. I can’t find anything to suggest he committed other crimes after that.

I suspect it wouldn't matter what sentence the kids got, it wouldn't be enough for some posters.

It's a pointless argument. We have a judicial system refined over hundreds of years. It's not perfect but it's one of the better implementations of justice anywhere in the world.
