8 worst Boro players in modern era.

We have had a lot of striker liabilities. Michael Ricketts stands out for me. Whelan was really bad but 8th worst ever, feels harsh. There are a few from Strachan-era through to now, not sure I can tell them all apart. Gestede, Ricketts, Wright probably my top 3.

He was decent
No. No he wasn’t. We paid £6m for him. If we bought him for £500k I would say we did well with him. But £6m for what he offered was criminal. I guess it’s not Savilles fault but I can’t look past what we got out of him for the money we spent.

£8 million actually

Fabio had a great game in his one and only game, its b***ks that he always get mentioned in these threads.

lumley's record (42 goals conceded in 39 appearances) is very solid.
Yeah but half of them were his fault.

I’d have Lumley in there, he was F***ing garbage, and a list like this has to include Espinosa and Barragan.

Espinosa was the worst CB I’ve seen play for us in an extended run, an absolute liability in every respect and made Ben Gibson nearly get an England call up because he had to do so much defending to compensate.

Barragan is a professional right back who can’t take throw ins.

That Osbourne lad was shocking n all.

Siliki away at Huddersfield maybe?? was the worst performance I’ve seen by a boro player, maybe ever.

He was very good for periods in my opinion. Was he worth the fee? Probably not but that’s not the discussion.

If it's a contemporary list (based on all factors, ability salary fee etc) in a boro XI

...................................................Valdes

Barragan...................Flint.........................Esipnoza......................Marv Johnson (Only because alan wright is too far back to be classed as contemporary and we've had some great left backs)

Fischer...............Thompson.............Saville............De Pena

.................Assombalonga.............Gestede..

Subs:
Fletcher
Gary O'neill
Alfonso Alaves
Guediora
Digard
MIdo
Braithwaite
Payero
Ricketts

Believe it or not thats over 120 million in fees alone

Special menton goes to our championship special 4 , Flint, assombalonga, Saville and fletcher, 36 million british pounds for that lot, the money that was wasted
from our promotion and subsequent relegation a year later set the clib back years, Monk was like a kid in a sweet shop and Pulis came along and he wasted millions of ***** as well

Is the list supposed to be worst signing or worst player? Because there's a hell of a difference but it doesn't seem to know.

If its worst signing then yeah, it's Gestede on there all day long. But the likes of Tiendelli or Dong Gook don't belong on it, because they cost us sod all.

If its worst player then, depressingly, we've easily had 8 worse than Gestede. Even taking into account the fact Gestede was mostly a waste of space.

Scary how much we’ve spent over the years on absolutely terrible footballers.
I’ve never seen a player miss as many sitters as Silvera - useless

Who was the striker we loaned when Southgate was Manager in the season following relegation? I think we got him from Hull. He was absolutely woeful. I genuinely couldn’t believe he was a professional player.

Definitely add Kris Boyd to the list. Arrived with a big reputation but ended up being rubbish. Like all the Scottish signings, apart from Barry Robson.

Caleb Folan? I'm pretty sure he only played 15 minutes when WBA tonked us 5-0. Marcus Bent far far poorer that season. Genuinely remember a one on one situation against QPR (who Bent had been on loan at earlier that season) where he genuinely froze on the ball and appeared to have zero clue what to do in that position. Weird really considering how good he was literally at every other second tier club he played for.
