Its absolutley ridiculous and totally heavy handed. If the gym has been told it should close then it should close, but sending 7 armed officers is just bizarre.

The police forces in the UK, particularly the Met, have shown in the last few months that they are selective about what they will and won't police. There have been numerous protests and marches across the land recently, yet it seems that politics and religion decided what is and isn't acceptable.

On face value it appears totally disproportionate, but I'd also say that deploying armed officers in this way should only happen if there is justification, so maybe theres more to this than meets the eye.

edit; having watched it again a bit more closely, I'm not even sure they're 'armed'?

The police do not routinely arm units (apart from MOD etc.) so they are not waiting around.

I was thinking that. I'm no expert on armed police but surely they aren't routinely despatched because they might be in the same area. I would've thought they would be specialised teams who would be ready to act at a moment's notice if there was a serious situation going on.
