50 years ago today Boro clinched the 73/74 title away to Luton

Am I wrong in thinking that we clinched promotion that year against Oxford at home? That was the first year I started going to games with my dad but missed this one as I was youth hosteling with school.

Edit, read that wrong, title against Luton, won promotion against Oxford?

Met Eric Morecambe before game.
Outside players directors entrance.
Exactly same, clowning, as he did on TV
Massive Luton fan.

Seem to remember going on United bus.

Bought Centre Stand seat tickets.
Ended up in seats in line with penalty spot as stand only went to half way line.

Boro fans everywhere in the ground
At first I thought you'd put Eric McMordie
He became a bit of a forgotten man after Murdoch arrived - played a game Murdoch just after he arrived, then got a runout as sub just after the Luton game
Never knew he was with us for another whole season - 74/75.
No ever played for us though - spent some time in loan at Sheffield Wednesday

I was at that game. Couldn't move in the "away end" behind the goal. Whole end went mental scored the winner.
Great journey home.

Don’t think Jack liked McMordie.something happened in an international match between England v Ireland I seem to remember. Think he thought McMordie had gone “over the top” on somebody and Jack didn’t like that.

Any memories from those in attendance?
We went on a bus.
Bit of a sketchy walk to the game - lots of home fans looking for easy pickings.
I’d made my first and only banner from a bed sheet supported by a brush handle I’d snapped in two - painted on it ‘Jack’s Bombers’.

Mills got the winner.
Caught up with the players at a service station on the way back

bit ironic with Giles Bremner and Hunter in his Dirty leeds team

On the way back, I seem to recall some clashes at a service station with Newcastle "fans". Think they had just won a cup semi final. Otherwise, it was a fantastic day out.

I went on league liner with my dad and his mates.

Stood on terrace in main stand - was pushed to the front on my own. 7 years old in the home end.

Team came back on the train and walked through carriages serving champagne. I can remember the team on the platform of Luton station before the train arrived after the match - it was chaotic with high speed trains flying through the station.

It was my first season going to games (Sunderland on Boxing Day was my first game) and following the results - I just thought Boro won every week!!

The League Liner train was delayed a bit leaving so the team were able to get on-board.
The vast majority of the team were on, and probably all of them.
As Max Boyce, would say - "I know 'cause I was there".
My dad even gave me a taste of the champagne out of his plastic cup.
