5 days freedom for Christmas

The unfortunate truth is no matter what the Government say about Christmas there will be a lockdown in January or February regardless.

People will break the rules at Christmas. Infection rates will rise. We will need to lockdown in some form to give the vaccine the best chance and have a normal spring / summer.

This way Boris get's to blame the public again for the lockdown in Jan rather than the failures of his administration.

I don't see how anyone would want this? How many businesses will go under whilst closed for a another month or jobs lost? It's f*cking Christmas... Its nothing special unless you're a young kid who believes in santa (sorry for the spoiler🎅😂).

You do realise that pretty much the whole hospitality business rely on December takings to see them through Jan/Feb the next year.

So plenty will go under.

I know👍. That's what I mean as in we don't need another lockdown. They open up as 'normal' on the 2nd and stay open as it stands.

The would have to close down for another month if 5 days of Xmas goes ahead.

I’d relax it to something like the rule of six for 2 days.

Many people aren’t following the rules as they are so it’s going to be futile and a waste of time and energy trying to get them to do it over Christmas.

They don’t have the resources to enforce the rules as it is, so you’ve got no chance over Christmas.

Give people the information they need, make them aware of the risks and let them decide for those two days.

Agree

Agree with this. We’re going to be in lockdown in January, Christmas or no Christmas. The furlough scheme has been extended to March so it seems the government are expecting lockdowns and restrictions until then.
“Giving us Christmas” is the governments attempt to seem like they are still in control. A lot of people would just break lockdown if it was in place at Christmas, the government wouldn’t fine anyone or stop them and the same people would think “they didn’t stop us then why would they stop us now”. Compliance then utterly deteriorates.

Again the lockdown has provided 0 evidence of doing anything useful if you actually look at it apart from being an absolute destruction of mental health and the economy.

Why are the government bartering with people like their our parents?

Everyone is looking at January... What the feck is going to happen on the 2nd December?!

I think they know that people are going to do what they want at Christmas anyway so are going to try and facilitate it rather than fight it.

Ironically, if the government had a proper well thought out strategy and the many many selfish people had done as they needed to over the last 8 months then there wouldn't be any need for a 5 day window.

One thing is for sure, I won't be going anywhere near a pub during those 5 days.
You say this but every country has had a big second wave - can we really put it down to 'selfish people'?

Someone in Public Health England was interviewed yesterday, His view

The message is odd - ‘Spend time with your family and friends over the xmas period then mourn for some of them in Jan/Feb ..........
This is exactly why it shouldn't be the message. The message should be "we're not going to make it illegal to celebrate Christmas but here are the facts, and YOU need to make choices/take risks YOU are comfortable with and YOU need to be accountable for them". Which is really what the message should have been all along rather than messing around with 3-tier regionally discriminative horse crap that didn't work and was never going to work.

Problem with lifting the restrictions is people either accidentally or more likely purposely misinterpret it to mean they can go back to “normal”.
There was lots of people in the summer claiming this was over when some of the restrictions were lifted.

As an example - We normally see our neighbours on Christmas evening.

We have two kids, one at school and one at nursery who have no concept of social distancing. I’m working with hundreds of people (doing our best to socially distance, sanitise regularly, wear coverings etc). Wife works in a small office with one other person.

Next door works in a primary school (surrounded by kids who don’t socially distance from themselves or her), her husband works in an office with others and they have a teenage daughter who’s a waitress and two kids at school.

I suspect if we’re going to get the virus (if we haven’t already had it) it would be from one of those multiple higher risk environments (or shopping as we established yesterday) as oppose to spending a few hours with them for one day.

Indeed, but that's why you keep all the bars and pubs shut. How many people can you fit in one house anyway? I have an above average sized house (not meant to be a humble brag) and I wouldn't want more than about 10 absolute maximum for a day, including young children who appear to neither suffer from nor spread the virus.

But that said, I wouldn't be having a 95 year old round who covid would simply be a death knell for, cos I'm not stupid. But what's the alternative? We ALL have to not see anyone to make sure the 95 year olds are ok? Why can't people just be trusted to apply common sense? For the most part, most people have this year I'd say. Every western nation has suffered badly and every one is also having a second wave.

Regrettably people can’t be trusted on account most are dim . Remember Bournemouth beach
The media present these things to us but I couldn't comment on how 'dim' people were being really, or how distant they were being. Photographs aren't always that accurate. Wasn't it a time when we were being told that you have minimal chance of spreading the virus outdoors?

Last Monday there were no parking spaces at Stewart Park in Boro . We are informed we can go out and exercise but I certainly wouldn’t go near a packed area when its not hard to find open spaces where most of us live .

And the consequences of Bournemouth beach were?
most of those people weren’t from Bournemouth . Apparently they came from as far as Midlands and London hence they all returned to a wide area that couldn’t be measured from that populace . Most of Bournemouth public stayed away from Beach .

And the consequences of Bournemouth beach were?
Would you have gone to Bournemouth beach or Stewart Park ? I certainly wouldn’t . I know our family’s are all different in terms of needs etc but I think it’s unnecessary risk for the sake of a bit of sun and an ice cream .

And the consequences of Bournemouth beach were?
Absolutely zero, no rise anywhere, not just Bournemouth, same for BLM

400,000 plus people here, 43 active cases, 1 in Yaiza district. half of those people flown in recently from countries with higher virus counts.

England in lockdown having no impact.

Why? It’s got to be to do with being outdoors, we’re looking in the wrong places for the solution.

Just because the car park is full doesn't mean it won't be safe.
Stewart Park is a massive area and plenty of space for 100's of people to safely social distance and get their exercise, plus it's outdoors.

I noticed the Gazette were running an article about it as people had been doing their usual and complaining that people were spreading the virus by going there all over social media.

We really are on the road to being a totalitarian state and the general public are unwittingly helping it along.
