3 month gap between AZ jabs given thumbs up by report in Lancet

The study from Israel said among older adults a single Pfizer dose provides only 33% protection. And since older people are more likely to die, that does seem to be a gamble.

You can get 33% protection by taking Vitamin D according to recent studies. The correlations between Vitamin D deficiency and death are remarkable.

The three week gap between shots is supposed to provide 90% protection, and the article I read said protection drops to 60% after 12 weeks.

The calculus seems to be pretty cold. 100% x 60% > 50% x 90%. So it might be better for the country as a whole, but for the individual it increases the risk of infection significantly. An attempt to reduce overcrowding in hospital perhaps. Certainly nothing to celebrate. In some countries - shortages or otherwise - they're taking a two dose approach.

I'd have thought a discretionary single dose policy that allowed doctors to prescribe the second dose for highly vulnerable patients would have been a better approach to both reducing hospital load and death.
