2nd Test Eng v NZ

Getting interesting this.

Pope looking good

Gets his 100

Looks like stokes faith in him is paying off.

Is it a really flat track? For a couple of very brittle batting sides it’s going to be 2 big scores, and more than likely a draw

Pretty flat. But at the same time there is a little bit in it for the bowlers. Some rather poor catching from both sides

I do worry about Stokes as captain. He keeps talking about playing agressively, and you may get some success playing like 20-20 in certain situations, but when you are over 150 behind with 5 wickets down - that is not the time to play like this. It pleased the crowd while it lasted, but England needed him to hang around and scoring is not difficult so the runs would come without trying to hit it out the ground every single shot.

I’m not so sure, but I think I like it. On this pitch getting 150 plus from the next 5 wickets (and root still in) should be pretty simple, and if he got out then the rest can tame it down a little.

Then it’s just 2nd innings v 2nd innings, and I’d probably rather be chasing as the pitch isn’t doing much, and doesn’t look like it will.

It’s keeping it interesting, at least.

England may push on and score 620 on this pitch which will be a 70 lead by tea. Then they will need to bowl out NZ in two sessions to realistically win this. I think the situation is now that England are the only team that can’t lose the match from this position now. The only way I can see a result is if we can bowl them out in just over 2 sessions and leave time for some sort of run chase. Tall order
