Well,.as some will know, I have a dreadful record with tips., and fancied England to win the first ODI.
So I must go India this time 😆
On now 8am start
 
England are a batter light that might add to the caution. Overton in at 7 is nuts....I don't get the repeating confidence in his batting. As far as ODIs go - it's a long tail.
 
Welcome this more sensible approach compared to our last effort however I don't think it's close to being enough; defending under 6 an over is a tough ask unless Rashid can play a blinder.

This team is very far away from one that can win the Champions Trophy.

India will be caution thou but only against Rashid. England have show the pace gets hit about but once the spin comes on and India have 3 top spinners it’s a different game. Ahmed should’ve been in the team for all 5 games instead we’ve gone pace heavy.

Agreed - pace hasn't been the way forward. As you say India has the spinners and England only really has Rashid - unless Livingstone has a good day.Ahmed should be in the team to get experience and to test him. He can bat as well. I just don't get Overton being anywhere near this team. There is no balance in the team at all.
 
With Rashid, Ahmed and Livingstone think it could be a defendable total but to my surprise Ahmed’s not in the ODI squad.
 
Make them bat in the dark we might have a chance.

Didn't realise myself, which is a good reason he's not in the team!!!

England struggle to balance the team without Stokes..... The top order batter who can bowl 10 overs.... Stating the obvious I know!

I would say Livingstone should be at 7 -
He can both bat in the last 10 and smash a 30 ball 50..... Or if there's a collapse (with discipline) he can build an innings and go big .... He had an ODI hundred..... He should be England's wildcard..... Not a bits and pieces bowler like Overton who averages 16 with the bat.

It doesn't really matter who the bowlers are - if your top order doesn't get the runs. England needs a top 7 who can regularly get to 300+.

On a plus..... Good to see Root has been brought back..... England should just let him bat in his own way and build innings around him. He needs to be in the T20 side as well. He's still England's best batter by a country mile. What a cricketer he really is.

As much as I love him I'm not sure where he fits into the T20 side - Salt, Buttler, Brook, Livingstone and Bethell are all now fixed in the top to middle order and it seems like they want to try squeeze Duckett in too at the expense of Will Jacks.
I'd prefer Root to put his feet up and concentrate on Australia at the end of the year.
