13th July 1985

I was in Corfu. The papers a couple of days later were quite joyful to read, made you proud of your country. Apart from of course The Sun, which ran negative stories about how it was all nearly a disaster. The Who wouldn't go on stage because of internal feuds, Freddie Mercury had a severe throat infection that meant he nearly didn't perform etc. Good ol' Mr Murdoch, the ghoul. Some things never change.

All the crowd enjoying the performance and joining in, instead of the modern trend of recording everything on phones and missing the moment and experience while there.

Was broadcasting live music much rarer back then as I remember being told I couldn’t go out with my mates because I needed to watch it, which was a right pain as I’m sure we’d have had a game of one man cuppy lined up!!!

If they did a 40 year anniversary Live Aid concert in a couple of years would it bring the nation to a halt again and what would the line up be like. I’d say Coldplay and Ed Sheeran would definitely be there, with Taylor Swift a certainty to be on the American line up.

They did that G8 one in 2005. Wasn't very good if I remember.

Watched most of it on TV apart from going to Guisborough from Redcar for a couple of hours in the afternoon.
Remember Bob Dylan coming on later in the American show, it was the 1st time I had seen him, and I've realised later his voice is an acquired taste because the 1st time I seen him his voice sounded terrible, but then later I got into his songs and his voice grew on me.
