HOOF 31 January 2021: 12 Day Quiz - DAY 13 -TIE BREAK RESULTS - Guess Erimus74's favourite Boro footballers

What a difference a day makes... 100% record for everyone that entered round 8.

Here are the words from Erimus74..

"My answer for my favourite No4 & only one answer for me........... Graeme Souness

Whenever I see a Boro player wearing the No4 shirt I instantly think of 'oooohhh Souness, Souness, born is the king of Ayresome Park'

Graeme Souness was Stan Andersons final signing when the Boro paid Spurs £32k for his signature, his skills, his lethal shot, his style of play could hide the fact he was a defensive midfielder, infact IMHO, the best ever complete footballer to have played for the Boro

Souness played 202 games, between 1973 & 1977, scoring 23 goals
Graeme Souness made his debut away to Fulham in January 1973, that season he would wear Nos10 & 11, I distinctly wearing No11 when standing in the boysend watching him
Big Jack handed him the No4 shirt which he would keep, other than 2 appearences when he was named as No12, till the day he feft

He scored 7 goals that season, scoring his 1st Boro goal at home to Preston in December 1973 in a 3-0 win & his last when scoring 2 at home to Leeds in a 2-1 win

We never lost a game which he scored in with his 1st top flight goal infront of MOTD cameras wearing that iconic white away shirt at Stoke scoring the equaliser in a 1-1 draw

He was the only player to score a hattrick in the amazing & unforgettable ‪1973-74‬ season

He will be remembered for 2 seperate games at home to Norwich, the 1st on the 9th October 1976 he scored the only goal in a 1-0 win to put us top of the 1st division & 2nd was on the 31st December 1977 when a 2-2 draw at Ayresome Park being his last Boro game

He spoke during a 73-74 ex players reunion I attended saying he loved it here, the club, big Jack were the making of him
When John Neal was manager in his 1st season (‪1977-78‬) the Boro were receiving big offers for Souness, there was ralk of Leeds & Man City wanting to sign him, one team he spoke to was Man City, on route to City he told us he'd made up his mind that he was going nowhere, that Boro were as good as either of the teams interested & if Liverpool don't come in for him he'll be staying at the Boro, I think he knew Liverpool were interested, he was sold for a club record £352k

He had a great career, he was a world class player & probably the best Liverpool player for me too, all thanks to Stan Anderson, Big Jack & Bobby Murdoch "

The eagle eyed among you might have spotted 2 mistakes in the results from yesterday. I have corrected both of them today. Plus I think I have not introduced any more mistakes today.

As you can see, the next round is left winger (number 11).

As usual, answers in by 12:00 UK time tomorrow.

Interesting. I see that Armstrong played number 11. However he is noted as being a midfielder rather than a winger. With the emphasis in this quiz being on position rather than number.

There is David Chadwick that I remember. Probably too early for Erimus74. Then there is Stewart Downing who might be a little too late for him.

I am still thinking at the moment.

I think David Chadwick was a right winger (no7), Derrick Downing was his opposite number on the left wing.(no11). I will go for the more recent Downing- Stewie.

I have not finished my research yet. I remembered the name Chadwick from when I was a kid. Could not remember which wing he was on. So thanks for that. I also had Derrick Downing on my list to look at . Plus Alan Moore. Plus maybe some others.

My first thought was Spike, so I'll stick with that.

If I was going to go left field (so to speak!) I would go for Stewey Downing, I don't think we'll really appreciate how good he was between 2004-2008 until he's been retired ten years or so. Another personal favourite of mine would be Jonny Jonny Hendrie on the wing, but think he was more of an inside forward with us

Mr Hendrie in on my research list as well. I do not really remember him as being a winger though. As you say.
