“The reason we have the vaccine success is because of capitalism, because of greed my friends.”

At a time of great sensitivity about the distribution of vaccines and during what are surely sensitive discussions with our European friends, the slackness of this mans gob is truly frightening. Could it have consequences, well ask Nazanin ZaghAri-ratcliffe, see what she thinks.

This communist:

In 1968, Merkel joined the Free German Youth (FDJ), the official communist youth movement sponsored by the ruling Marxist–Leninist Socialist Unity Party of Germany.[32][33][34] Membership was nominally voluntary, but those who did not join found it difficult to gain admission to higher education.[35]

Hence why I mentioned compromises. The raison d'etre of totalitarian states is to make citizens culpable in their own oppression - hence this sort of thing. Her career has shown her to be any but communist.

Now, after Merkel, you must have countless other examples of communists and ex-communists in the EU. Otherwise you wouldn't have made the assertion you did. So care to furnish us with some non- historically illiterate examples?

Where should I start ?

Poland , Hungary Check Slovak, Lituainia, and on and on. Most of their Euro MP's are former communist party members. Or as time progresses they fade away and all will have lived under communist rule barring a few

And I have noticed a trait evident on this board how those of a far left persuasion are not very flexible in changing those deep engrained political beliefs

You are mixing up totalitarianism and communism. We enabled Russia to impose totalitarianism on Eastern Europe. It was a totally misguided agreement that we were complicit in.

Trying to equate the EU trying to take control of vaccine production as communist is a pretty half arsed way of having a dig at them. The vaccine situation is more akin to a civil defence requirement and you'd think that in future, after learning lessons after ignoring the already identified risk, most countries will have some form of state controlled vaccine capability, the same as they have hospitals/fire fighters/police etc.

If you knew the first thing about the politics of the countries listed you'd recognise that they detest communism more than anyone.

Go to Warsaw or Budapest and attempt to imply that Law and Justice or Fidesz are pro-communist. Kaczyński was in Solidarnosc, Orbán was an anti-communist agitator. The people in power now we're the ones who overthrew communism.

As stated - people being forced to live under communist regimes doesn't make them communist.

This must be a wind up, nobody can be this obtuse.

I wasn't trying to do that

You do know that East Germany was a communist country don't you ? The place where she spent the first 35 years of her life.
Ah! So one's politics is decided on a geographical basis?
