is the predicted average annual energy bill per household from this October. Will get confirmation of this in the coming weeks.
Who is worried about this, and what are you planning to do to survive?

Because I won't be able to pay it I've joined the Dontpay.uk protest. Also collecting wood from skips to burn in wood burner rather than put heating on. Its come to this.

I'll keep paying my same monthly payment of £150 as I do now and deal with the debt later down the line. I don't see that I can do anything else. Not a chance that I'll be upping my monthly bill to over £300 a month and still be able to feed my family with inflation currently running rampant too.

Family first pal. Wishing you well

Look after your family mate, end of the day money is just a number, pay what you can, millions are in the same boat along with myself.

I am paying £140 at the moment, octopus asking for over 500 a month, £6200 a year, told octopus not a chance, I will pay for what I use, nothing more !

I've already changed the timings on our heating so when it does kick in again, it will be on for less time to try and reduce use.
We have blankets that will be used more frequently rather than as decoration on chairs etc.

We are paying £215 a month for gas and electric; this is up from £93 a month on our old fix that ended in July.

It is insane and still heading in the wrong direction.

Yeah if one good thing has come out if this we realised we had the heating / hot water on for far too long at times. Our consumption compared to the same months last year had been a lot lower.

I read that by autumn 45 million people will be in energy poverty in the UK. Clearly Bristolboro you are not alone.

Octopus will lend people heat loss detectors and electric blankets to those struggling

Our combined gas and electricity has just gone up from £115 a month to £330. Crazy!! No one would offer us a deal so we managed to tie in for one year, knowing it’s going up again in October!

I was listening to LBC last night at work, and a listening phoned in suggesting an interesting idea. Not saying it could or would ever happen, however hypothetically what if the majority of the country jumped energy suppliers thus splitting up the monopoly of the big six, I’m sure this must have an affect with millions jumping ship, they’d have no choice to either drop their prices to compete again or risk going under?

I'm so fortunate to be on a fixed deal on really good prices. I entered into it last August so before the world went mad. British Gas have still attempted to increase my direct debit without telling me mind.

£3500 is crazy nearly £10 per day.

The Government could do more when it gets to that give rebates off council tax etc. For those that have council tax paid give them some cash to stay alive.

to pay for it tax energy companies more and recycle the extra VAT collected..

The energy hike is hopefully an one off.

Red Wurzel's Tips (for anyone who is struggling)

I would advise everyone insulate your properties (many free grants about for new loft insulation)

Fit LED lights (Sainsburys have some clearences offers just bought 2 LED bulbs for £2.50 which will pay for themselves in 2 months).

If your fridge is over 10 years replace it, if you can it could knock £100 a year off your electric bill

Careful using the convential oven, microwave is cheaper on energy.

Only heat rooms you constantly use.

Pick wood from free sources if you can burn wood. (When a young child I used to find wood around Flatts Lane for my granny to keep her council house warm, she was allowed a open fire then) she had no central heating or gas fires - don't let people tell you it was better for pensioners in the 1960s/70s it was not for working class ones living solely on a state pension.

Let the sun's heat in during the day and stop it leaving at night.

Look for draughts and try and reduce them.

If you have a free bus pass use it to ride the buses to keep warm on cold days. Some have charging points too for your phone.

Go to cheap pubs on cold nights too and turn your heating off so it only comes on the prevent freezing pipes. You could possibly save £7 to £8 in reduced energy use and use part of that for a couple of drinks and still save money overall. If going to a Boro game get there early and keep warm in the concourse. After an afternoon game stay in the concourse for 20 minutes, keep warm and let the crowds disperse.

Share lifts to home and away games more - something we could set up more on here. Even a 5 mile lift would save money and traffic for fans going in the same direction.

Seems like a more efficient use of power for sure.
We are with octopus and my wife got an email yesterday. To be fair to them, they are doing a lot to try and help. They did give figures of how much it cost them last year verrsus this. You may argue we don't need the middle men and this increases costs, which it does, but thats not octopus or any other provides fault.
