The general public are clueless, or simply do not care enough to look at anything beyond headlines. Of course the headlines are controlled largely by Tory media, funded by the rich, who are only acting on their own behalf, at the detriment of the lower classes and people who are easily conned.
We say we have a free press, but that's an extremely bad thing when it's heavily weighted to the side on the opposite of most of the free people. It's also worse when the people who pay most attention to the press are the old folk, who area generally a lot richer than the middle aged or younger folk.
We need to bring in weighted voting in line with peoples understanding. It's not democratic if people can be so easily conned into voting for self harm.
The only thing that can save us is that things have gotten so ****, for the young (especially), that they will hopefully do anything to get rid of these clowns. Eventually the weight of those hardest hit will outweigh those hit less, and counter balance the clueless.
The internet and access to a wider spectrum of free news/ social media and information should gradually wear out what can be influenced by Tory money. The internet has been in use for ~25 years, but things really kicked on about 20 years ago, and it's generally only adults who watch/ read the news. So, that probably means that it's only people early 40's and younger who will have relied more on online news, rather than the press, for most of their adult lives etc.
Hopefully when the Tories get hammered a lot of the funding and ownership of the press may slow down, due to a bad ROI, and we know they like ROI. If Labour can get in and hold for 10 years then I think that will be enough to kill off the Tory press/ media influence, and bring some balance back, as balance will sell to new generations. When people finally get the balance and more truth I think it will be the end of the right having all the control.
