Dijksteel, O'Brien, Thomas, Silvera

I honestly question what people are watching. Silvera who normally infuriates me did much better looking after the ball tonight, got his body between the man and the ball and didn't give it away as cheaply as usual. For a game that he started for me he looked capable for probably the first time.

O'Brien who has disappointed me was one of the best players tonight. Thomas did alright. While rusty, Dijksteel was awful. He constantly gets the ball stuck under his feet and he's week as p*** for someone who's a hood size. It's a pity, he seems a nice lad and has some good attributes but he's just not tough enough.

Just to add, I sit in line with the penalty spot and I've never seen so many offsides not given. I felt they were offside in the build up to the first goal, a blatent one prior to the third goal and then the third goal itself. I don't think being a linesman is a difficult job at all and thought his decisions (and the ref) were very dubious.

I'd have had O'Brien down as our second best player after ELL on the night. Thought he was really good.

Dijksteel had a stinker; I have rated him in the past, and I have some sympathy as he's not played much football recently. However, MC clearly doesn't rate him and I don't expect to see him start again.

Silvera has som flashes of ability, but they are neither bright enough nor often enough for him to be starting.

Thomas is, and always was, just a body to back up our other LBs when Bangura was injured.

Yeah, I thought O'Brien played well. Thomas was ok and played a big part in the 1st goal but some (again) have made their mind up early and that's that as far as they are concerned. Dijksteel was rusty (surprised he played) and might be the last time we see him. Silvera was Silvera, capable of excellence but quiet for large parts (not too dissimilar to Greenwood in that respect
We really shouldn’t be writing off Thomas after a spell with us - I think he could come good

We have 2 contracted left backs already.

We don't need to sign a 3rd, especially one who's never had a good game for us.
The best you can say in his 6 starts is that in 2 of them he wasn't as bad as he had been in others.

Dijksteel, O'Brien, Thomas, Silvera

Add clarke to that list numerous times he recklessly committed himself only for them to play round him and then hes out of the game hes got no recovery speed at all.
Rvb is only one of that back four i would keep

I am always surprised at the game people see.

There was a question about Carrick's favourites on another thread - and all I can see here is people confirming the view they already had independent of what happened.

I can't see how O'Brien or Silvera can be criticised for tonight.

I've always liked Dijksteel but he was poor.

Thomas I think is our poorest left back and I can't really understand why he is playing other than fitness. But he was fine.

At least we know we need to sign Ayling tonight. Proper full back. I knew it anyway like but some others still have doubts.
Ayling is very good offensively as a full back, that’s the strong part of his game, delivers some great crosses too, but he’s not as good defensively and isn’t the quickest now. Jack Clarke comprehensively took him apart in the game at the Riverside for example, exposing his lack of pace. It would be nice if we could stop conceding so many goals next season otherwise we’re going to have to score a hell of a lot of goals to compensate for all we let in.

Agree. I haven't been O'Brien's biggest fan but that was the best I've seen him. Just shows what a run of games can do. Thomas also, who has been generally shocking, was much more dependable, and got involved in some positive moments. Thought the team as a whole were excellent and reinforces my view that Carrick is the man to take us forward.

Silvera was much better than he has been, though i think that is a reflection on how ineffective he has been previously, in that he did mange to retain the ball a little better.

He still very, very rarely gets by his man to deliver a cross or a shot. The only shot's that aren't blocked are the ones that go 50ft high and wide!

I'd drive Silvera to Sydney myself. Having slight glimpses won't cut it in this league, he goes missing for large parts of the games and the ball bounces off him. Whether it's Carrick's instructions or Sammy's laziness, but I didn't see him try to run in behind their back line all night.

Having said that, I thought Azaz was our poorest forward player tonight. He needs to get on those weights through the Summer, a fresh breeze would knock him off the ball.

Azaz had a really good game last night
