HypocritesIt makes me laugh when teams such as Bournemouth and Brentford vote or this nonsense when in the not too distant past they'd have relished the thought of a replay against a "big" club.
Still, fair play to them for getting in with the big boys.
I’m not sure it’s about thatDoes doing away with replays make a giant killing more likely?
Possibly but it does take away the potential for a big pay day at Old Trafford or whereverDoes doing away with replays make a giant killing more likely?
I agree, but from a sporting glory view there maybe more giant killings. And the winner should go in to get a payday next round.I’m not sure it’s about that
I think it’s about the lack of consultation with the EFL clubs and the fact that half a dozen clubs at the top of the pyramid have got their way.
Is that what the FA cup has become? A financial life line to smaller clubs. Seams a bit of a random way of supporting / funding football. I think the bigger picture needs addressingPossibly but it does take away the potential for a big pay day at Old Trafford or wherever
Any cup run has always been a great source for lower league teams. Depending on how you look at it fortunately/unfortunately we have such an abundance of teams within our football pyramid system (I even include Sunday pub league sides in this as even they take a slice of the sponsorship pie) that the fight for sponsorship to aid in the running of a football club is a huge battle year in year out. The fight for teams to keep stadiums up to standard alone is a massive battle especially when you factor in the way the price of materials alone has gone over the last couple of years. All of a sudden a good cup run you can plan to make the improvements that are a requirement before you can be promoted whether you win the league or not and that "next tier sponsorship" to then allow investment in the playing squad. A good cup run with the addition of a couple of high income replays can cover the basic funding for lower league teams for a couple of years. Is that what the FA cup has become? Of course the bigger picture needs addressing but the fa cup has always been a financial lifeline to smaller clubs. Is that what the FA cup has become? A financial life line to smaller clubs. Seams a bit of a random way of supporting / funding football. I think the bigger picture needs addressing
