That is what it has always been to the small clubs. They are never going to win it. They do however get the chance of "sporting glory" if they can put out a big club but the income from a single game against a PL (or even Championship club) can double their income for a season. More if it is picked for TV (which is more likely for a mid week replay)
 
I have said this before - but back in 2004 non-league Exeter City were in debt and the future of the club in balance. Then they got Man Utd away in the FA cup. A 0-0 draw at O.T. was an amazing result and it took goals from Ronaldo and Rooney in the replay at Exeter for the premiership team to win.

The money earnt from those 2 games cleared the debt, and possibly reignited some interest from local fans in the struggling club. I think that the positive benefits lasted for years for that team.

There will be loads of other small teams with similar stories over the years, I expect.

But yeah, lets scrap replays because the champions league sides star player might get a bit tired.

Yeah but they may win the original tie on pens. So instead of a meaningless day trip to old Trafford to get beat.

You beat them at your place on penalties and get the TV cameras for the home game. Next round TV and so on.

There’s a lot of duff replays too. 2nd round Notts Crawley say v Fleetwood. All for the right to go to Walsall. The replay if needed I don’t think is generating either club much money if any at all.

Sensible ticket pricing, full houses. Settled on the Saturday. But more exciting

Michael Carrick also backed this up at the press conference this afternoon.
A lot of clubs are an awful lot of fans are livid about this decision and also the total lack of consultation. With the Football Governance Bill getting its 2nd reading in Parliament this week it is almost as if the FA and Premier League want everyone to vote for an Independent Regulator. The arrogance and lack of self awareness of the FA and Premier League may totally backfire on them with the timing of this announcement.
 
How the hell did the FA go for this when only 20 teams from the top league were consulted?
Surely the whole thing needs to be discussed, debated and voted on at every level otherwise what’s the point in the FA? You might as well just let the Premier League run everything

Corruption? Surely not in England, that only happens in third-world countries. Oh, hang on...

Just another reason for me not to watch Premier League football, not that I need one. Thank God we didn't go up.

A good cup run can help lower league clubs to secure their finances for another season.

Don't forget, even Boro have benefited from some big cup games in the past few years.

Yeah, I know. I’m playing Devils Advocate. But when we played Villa this year. The very last thing we needed was a replay.

It was far from the end of the world when Cash’s shot squirmed in.

I’m not a fan of extra time though. Either straight to pens or liven up extra time by either or hell why not both of these new rules.

1) a player from each team is removed every six minutes
&
B) after HT in ET another ball (different colour) is introduced, worth two goals if scored with
