Tonight’s man of the match

Our better players for me today were the centre backs, Ayling on the right and the midfield pair.

Greenwood had a good second half but a poor first.
I'm repeating myself because I said similar elsewhere but I only watched the 2nd half and I thought Greenwood was terrible. If there was a way to get a quick highlight package of the 2nd half only showing the end of every one of our possessions then Greenwood would be the majority of them. Same reason as usual due to his bad decision making. Holding onto the ball when he shouldn't and being tackled, dribbling to nowhere, shooting when he shouldn't, poor passing and the penalty miss is the icing on the cake.

Maybe people think he had a good game because he had a lot of the ball in dangerous positions but our attacks broke down every time. If he was better in the second half then he must have been really bad in the first.

I'll be really disappointed if he's still with us next season.

Barlaser
O’Brien
Howson

I honestly thought Greenwood was as sh**e as usual. Holds on to the ball too long, always loses out in the dribble, ball-greedy and slow. Don’t get what people have seen in his performance today 🤷‍♂️
I'm not a Greenwood fan but I thought he was excellent today.

He was direct. Some great skill on the ball to create. Knocked in some great corners as well as coming close with his free kick.

He worked hard when we didn't have the ball and pressed the opposition all match.

It was a massive improvement from his recent performances.

If Clarke didn’t get that back injury I think he would be a premier league player.
He sold himself completely in the first half and they should have scored. To me he always looks like he is getting away with it but somehow he gets lucky all the time maybe thats a skill. He turns blindly at times with the ball as well, hes going to get caught against better players

I think he’s excellent and a great person to play alongside RVDB.

Why are you so bothered?

I thought Barlaser was how he always is against a very poor side, given acres of space and plenty of time to try and spray the ball around. He does so little with his time and space.
He creates little and is never threatening.
I think if you hold your breath for him to shoot when he has the opportunity then you will make a fabulous pearl diver.
I was in the north stand today, and what stood out for me was the poor movement up front, particularly in the first half. Barlaser was looking and it wasn't happening in front of him.

His lack of shooting was a let down, particularly the one when the long corner found him in space and sat up perfectly.

He's a decent Champo defender but would never cut it in the PL. There's a reason he never played a Premier League match for Brighton and kept getting loaned out to Championship Clubs.

But to be fair outside of Leeds, Leicester and Southampton, there's probably about 20 or 30 players playing in the Championship who would cut it in the Premier League. The gulf in level is massive. There's a reason promoted teams pretty much replace their whole squad within 2 or 3 seasons if they manage to survive.

Very much how I saw it too.
He played very well and miles better than recently.

Cos I’d like to see people explain their thoughts rather than just laughing. He had a really good game today in my view against poor opposition. I don’t trust him to do it consistently but I feel he deserves credit today.
That's fair enough Diego, I genuinely can't stand watching him play, he is so laboured.
I wondered whether your post was sarcastic, given our view of him has seemed so similar.

If he is a CM starter next season then it is going to be a slog.

He shouldn’t be a starter. Not if we have any aspirations of play offs or better. I’d like him to be 4th choice next season. Hopefully we get luckier with injuries too because he has been used to much this season.

Just looked up some stats. As a team we were disposessed 14 times today. Greenwood was 6 of those 14. Jones (0), Azaz (2), Lath (2) for comparison of our other attackers. Jones had been dispossessed only 17 times all season. The constant disposessions are really frustrating to watch and they are all down to poor decision making.

I'll ignore his penalty. Fair play for wanting to step up and it wasn't terrible. He had 4 other shots. None of them with an xG over 0.1. These are shots that he shouldn't be taking.

I do concede that his set piece delivery was good today and he also played a very good ball to Jones that should've been a goal. In general though he just makes bad decisions far too often and today was no different (despite some good things).

Barlasar.😎😎😎
(thought he ran the show, switched play with some great driven passes)
Greenwood😎😎
(Bright took up some good positions, finding pockets of space between the lines, looked sharp and dangerous, his dead balls were great, some really dangerous corners.
OBrien😎.
Won the ball back numerous times, covered every blade of grass.

Jonny was a Rolls Royce at the back.

Nice analysis.
