I can’t believe 7 people think ben white is better than Kyle Walker, that’s the real story here. I mean come on, have you ever watched a game in your life? 😂🤦‍♂️
To be fair that isn’t what the poll says so i am not sure where you get that from, but anyway….

Ben White has been more productive coming up with 2 more goals and twice the assists of Kyle Walker this season.

For me he shouldn’t be selected again. He didn’t even have the decency to inform the manager himself. I think it will be a decision he will come to regret once his career is over. He clearly has a high opinion of himself and he hasn’t done enough to back that up yet, in my opinion.
I have heard Southgate reference the NZ All blacks on more than one occasion, and they are clearly an organisation he has took ideas from in terms of the ethos around the England squad. One of the principles the All Blacks have, is a “no d***heads” policy, and I think White would fall foul of this with his attitude to playing for his country.

Because lots of things happen in football that we get to never hear or learn about and there is a very good reason, as I said above it can lead to verbal and physical assaults, some supporters take some things too personally, so my question to you, Is why do you need to know?
I have not said that I need to know. If he doesn’t want to play for England it doesn’t bother me at all. He’s not Harry Kane after all!

If the Telegraph is to be believed, the reason he left the England camp and is refusing selection is because Steve Holland suggested that the reason he didn't know the answer to a question was because "he wasn't sufficiently interested in football", it was said whilst in front of the rest of the squad and he's ultimately quit over it.

That's an incredibly tame reason.

He's basically being hung out to dry by the England management, whatever his reasons they are his own and even if people can't respect them it doesn't give them a free shot at him. I feel this is going to end up biting GS on the **** big time, and in this situation it wasn't necessary for him to speak out on a person who has chosen not to play in his set-up.

My lord. I've never actually looked at the comments section of the telegraph before.

Poor love, just as well he wasn’t asked to appear at the Battle of the Somme. He would have been executed for desertion. This is the tip of the iceberg for his generation in weak mentality. Pathetic.
I wonder what role that guy played in the Battle of the Somme?

It's peculiar that there is a generation of blokes who are now far too old to be conscripted who hanker for a return of national service and like to compare everything to fighting in a war.

I tell you what, if Steve Holland had told me, at the battle of the Somme, that I was insufficiently interested in military tactics, I would have leapt at the chance to flounce off the field.

He's been repeatedly asked why Ben White wasn't being picked during every squad announcement.
It was becoming a stick to beat him with.

All Southgate has said was that Ben White didn't want to be picked, and that he'd like him in the squad.

What's Southgate done wrong there?

Should he just lie and say that he doesn't think a regular starting right back at a table topping club is good enough to make a squad with one fit right back in it?

I get the Scholes thing though, he had 66 caps and was misused/under appreciated and had played in 4 tournaments (i think). Ben white has 4 caps.

Like you say we don't know the inner workings, so could be a lot more to it, but seems like an over reaction on his part to simply being deemed not first choice.
Scholes played in 4 tournaments, only one of which was he played wide left, a position he categorically said he enjoyed playing in for United.

He retired at 29 because he couldn’t find his form for England.

Exactly.

Southgate said the door was always open to him but he's chosen not to be selected.

White chose to leave Qatar, he wasn't kicked out.

It's nothing to do with Southgate excluding him, it's all White's decision.

GS even admitted in his interview that BW might face a backlash. So what if he is repeatedly being asked questions?Just bat them way, as long as his bosses know there is an issue there, then it not a problem for him, the questions around BW will disappear as other situations arise. BW is getting the stick for being weak willed, what about GS in this situation?

He was given a list of questions that journalists were going to ask him, one of which, yet again, was about why Ben White wasn't in the squad.
In previous squads, he could just point to other options like Trippier, James and Alexander-Arnold and say that there were other options ahead of him.
This time the only right back in the squad was Kyle Walker and there was no way of avoiding the question without getting stick or coming across as dishonest.

All the while, there have been articles doing the rounds that an argument with Steve Holland, Southgate's assistant of 11 years, is the reason he wasn't being picked.

He then notified Arsenal that he was going to be truthful about why Ben White wasn't in the squad, and I'm sure Ben White will have been informed by Arsenal.

He then gave a decent and honest answer, without placing any blame on White himself, acknowledged that he wasn't the first or only player to have made himself unavailable for selection and said he wanted him in the squad and that the door is always open to him, whilst denying reports that Steve Holland was the problem.

What's weak willed about that?

He couldn't just blank the question, and "I can't discuss why Ben White isn't in the squad" would make things seem far worse than the truth.

The reason Ben White has been opened up to criticism is because he's put himself in a situation where it's reasonable to criticise him.

Because as he said in the interview, he was aware that Ben White might face a backlash. There is lots of situations in my job where I can't be truthful or open about things with people who are not directly involved in the work I do, it's not about being dishonest but acknowledging that people have a right to privacy, and a level of safeguarding and it's the same whether the press want to know or not and that he ( GS) has an obligation to ensure the safety of his players not only through his training and playing methods but also about what he says about them, like i said before some fans will react and say and do things that could be harmful to BW, yes it is part of the scenery of his job but it does not need to be ramped up through the desire to escape the heat by GS.

If Southgate had no commented it to the press it would have kept rumbling on and on.

Ben White does not have a right to privacy about why he has not been selected. Southgate could have been much harsher with him and I can't think of any previous managers that wouldn't have been hyper-critical of Ben White.

So Ben White makes the decision that he doesn't want to be considered for England but no one is allowed to know? Many times players have decided to retire from international football but this is the first time I've heard of one doing it secretly!

Southgate explained why he’s said it. It’s all in the interview. But ultimately it’s because Ben Whites been a prat and leaked out that it’s all Steve Holland fault. Southgate chose to protect the integrity of his coaching staff above a whiny player. But he did say that the door isn’t closed on Ben, he can’t say fairer than that. Ben just needs to man up and apologise for his part.

Ben white isn’t good enough for this to create any noticable stink, he’s handled player issues very well.

It’s also worth noting that several players have not made themselves available before but more appropriate reasons. So all those times people whined about certain player not getting picked, it was possibly the players choice

The guy probably doesn’t want to be away from home for weeks on end with a bunch of blokes he may not know very well knowing the main reason he would want to be there is probably not going to happen and he he’d rather spend his holidays doing something he would enjoy more.Fair play to him it also gives somebody else a chance.
