Boro fan recorded making racist gesture at Leicester

I don't for a second think that Newy is downplaying this as some are suggesting. Only the most horrible racist would do that, which isn't Newy.

The video clearly shows what is extremely likely to be disgusting and intolerable behaviour. Rather than bickering on here, I think what would be really useful would be to hear from the club on what they are doing to look into this, assuming as they were tagged in the tweet, that they are aware.

Clearly they cannot solve it themselves but I would expect them to be on the phone with Leicester staff and police to get this looked into and to offer fans reassurance that they will take this incredibly seriously once more is known.

Like Specky said, this should be given the utmost importance and I would even say that Gibson himself, as the owner of the club should give a clear statement that this behaviour won't be tolerated at our club.

It's really positive to hear how strongly any form of racism is being condemned on here and people are right that we have to take a visibly harsh stance on it. Sadly I don't think football clubs have always done that
I’ll echo that but we do need a clear policy on the knee as well not this fudge we have now.

Kicking off in the middle of it shows this it’s not a good look.

The original video from Leicester Fan TV says that she was racially abusing fans in the Family Stand. It's hard to get any lower than this.

Club’s are usually quick to issue apology statements when this bigotry is reported. Sheff Wed did it within hours the other week.

We are slow out of the blocks here.

Why do we need to know if the recipient of the gesture is black before we can say that the gesture is racist?

The monkey armpits action is racist whatever the judge thought of Ernest Goult's defence.

We have a clear policy. A few middle-aged white boys on here, don’t like it. What I’m more concerned about is whether our players, and in particular those who have lived experience of racism, do or don’t like it. If they want to change it should change immediately. Not next season. Now. If they don’t want it changed, we should stop lecturing them about what’s good for them.

Some clarity there is what’s needed, not some pronouncement from on high.

There was a video on here a few years ago of a bloke doing the same thing and he was being defended because apparently ‘he was saying that whoever he was gesturing to are “the pits” because he was pointing to his armpits.’ And it’s a common gesture amongst fans. 🤷🏻‍♂️

[Edit] I see North22 has referenced this incident on page 2.
You clearly see her mouth the word monkey!

I think we are too far gone with that for it not to mean anything credible or meaningful.

I do think 100% that we should be more visable in our anti-racist stance.. but it seems the club are not particularly well advised in this area and choose to bury their heads or paper the cracks with meaningless gimmicks that are so far wide of the mark.
I think more people agree with @speckyget and @Caesium137 on this

Yeah it's a bit like saying it was ok for me to do a Nazi salute and shout seig heil because the person I was directing it to wasn't Jewish.
That's probably an extreme example but the point is there are certain actions especially when combined with aggravating words which are completely unacceptable in any circumstances regardless of the recipient.

Doesn’t look great does it? Not representative of the club or the majority of fans.

But a forum isn’t the group that should act as judge, juror and executioner. It has been flagged to the clubs, let them use the cameras they have to determine the evidence and decide what happens next. In the meantime we can all agree that racism doesn’t have a place anywhere and certainly not in a community and team as diverse as ours.
