The club needs to be very careful

I'm currently based in Newcastle (trialing living with my partner) 3 home games in 4 weekends finally broke me and I decided on Saturday it was watch on firestick time despite having a season ticket since the Riverside opened and match days being the only time now I usually catch up with my mates.

Did the same on New Years Day too so ive missed yesterday and Coventry.

EDIT I also missed the Ipswich game to go xmas shopping in York (so that's 3 defeats!)

March sees one weekend home game, but the way things are going I will probably firestick the Norwich game too

Yes I'm watching games illegally (who isnt?) and will always follow my team/wear Boro merch when Im out and about on Tyneside, i will still probably renew as the day I don't I certainly won't be paying 'walk up' prices

Beat Preston and people will be talking about pushing for the top six again.

They wont as we have Leicester next. Preston got a good result yesteday too

I can't remember a time we had no estabished No.9 in a squad let alone the team.

Remember when defenders used to be converted into makeshift strikers like Paul Warhurst (or was he a forward coverted to a centre half like Kernaghan?)

I understand the Rogers sale. Crooks obviously wanted to leave. Azaz will be decent I reckon. Ayling was needed to fill a problem position. Overall I like our transfer policy, and without knowing our finances I don’t feel I should really be criticising.

We clearly need a striker though. This wasn’t fixed. I understand not blowing a whole load of money in January if the right players weren’t available, but to be this close to the playoff places with no fit striker is insane.

I honestly think the club should have made a gesture - even a short term token signing. Getting someone like Lucas Joao until the end of the season. He may not have made a difference, but wouldn’t have been expensive. It would have at least shown the fans that the club still believes there is something to play for.

Exactly people talk about latte lath coming back like he’s Samuel etoo brother but the reality is he’s stil as much an unknown s silvera and has yet to really show anything in this league aside from the odd flashes.

So as you say aside from josh who’s still young and who was at Bristol rovers learning his trade this time last season we have no one who wants to fill that central striker role ( Forss admits he prefers outwide).

It would take a huge turnaround in form for us to reach the playoffs now. Not impossible of course but very unlikely.
It would but it also needs others above us to fail as well that was the issue last year what ever we did sheff u were always one step ahead.

It was just a couple of weeks ago a few posters were bumping the recruitment/Scott thread goading fans who were reasonably saying we were a midtable team this season and unlikely to be challengers.

Some of the same people now appear doom and gloom! Realistically after our start and squad issues this season was always going to be challenging. We aren’t going to get relegated which i would have taken after the Sheff Wed game.

I think some people just assumed we were going to turn into the same team as last season and steam roller the division. Sadly a lot has changed since then.

This is not a rich area money was tight before but with the current state of the economy what was a deprived area has been hit even harder than most so naturally disposable income is at a premium.

There has been a lot of positives and good will built up since carricks arrival and the town has really bought into that feel good vibe but we are in danger of letting this unravel with a squad in free fall devoid of any real attacking threat ( no strikers in the bench yesterday) and a season that is slowly petering out in font of our eyes.

Next month is season ticket renewal time when we ludicrously pressure fans to renew long long before the season concludes to create our “war chest” but I fear seeing players sold snd not replaced a willingness to sell key assets will put people off and if we’re not careful could undo a lot of this good work as fans become dissolutioned and worse apathetic towards the club again.

A few more Results and performances lie yesterday and we could be back to the strachan era crowds, as walk ups just don’t bother if they think the side have given up.
True. People are not stupid. They will see the usual talk of ‘buy a season ticket early’ and Carrick has big plans etc etc and will see this is only rhetoric. We are a mediocre mid table team atm at best. Our best players have gone and we have not replaced them in the transfer window. We have not only missed the boat as far as strengthening the team we have replicated the titanic. I hate to say this as I am Boro to the core but unless we spend big and wisely, and show real ambition next season, we will see crowds of 15,000 as before.

What's currently happening on the pitch, along with any of our better players being likely up for sale in the summer and the ridiculous pricing for the area we're in probably means crowds are going to significantly fall. Add to this the ability to watch any game at home for little cost which wasn't readily available 5+ years ago.

We're really fortunate that we have a commendable core of fans who will likely renew regardless of all these factors, however you can't blame many people for thinking their money will be better spent on something more important.

It has been communicated many times.
Has it really?
You should be able to point out a few instances to me then.

The whole reasoning for bringing in Kieron Scott.
Kieron Scott came in when Neil Warnock was the manager.
Nobody has ever suggested that part of the model involves selling our best players for relative peanuts. Or that it involves paying big loan fees and wages for on loan PL players then balk at the terms for signing them permanently. Because all of this has happened.

Buy a crop of young players who we can develop and improve over a couple of seasons, rather than established players with little room for improvement or potential sell on value.
There is a category of players inbetween which is generally not talked about when people describe the 'model'.

Mid 20s, established, can improve.
But unfortunately that involves ambition and Gibson doesn't have it.

Who have we sold for peanuts?

Who have we sold for peanuts?
If you're going to quote me quote me correctly.
I said relative peanuts.
i.e. relative to the fees other Championship clubs receive for players of comparable talent.
So yes I would say Tavernier, Spence and Akpom have been sold for relative peanuts.
