Utd to develop OT into the‘Wembley of the North’

A place where they won 2 trophies in the last decade?

Not a crazy target, I suppose. Good to see that they have more measured ambitions these days.

Money being discussed to demolish OT and rebuild like Spurs did, is mental but i think they need to do it.
For me they're still one of if not the biggest club in the world and they should have the best stadium. They should have a big 80k stadium, a huge arena with all the mod cons that modern football clubs have the swanky bars, conference centres, hotel on site etc and a hub where they're bringing in silly amounts of money at each home game - it was said on Talksport yesterday Spurs bring in around 800k just on food at each home game.

They would need a complete demolition and rebuild, moving the ground West and rotating it a bit. But joking aside, where would they play their home games for 2-3 seasons?
Even a reduced capacity 50k stadium......suppose there is the Etihad......😳😳
Only option really, won't go down well for red/blue sides of Manchester but imagine City would do well commercially out of it.

Having visited the revamped Bernabeu on Sunday night, I can see why they’re doing this, if they still want to be taken seriously as a European “giant”.

I cycle past Old Trafford several times a week, and it’s a crumbling shitwhole.
They can either do a 'Spurs' and demolish and rebuild on the same spot or a 'Real Madrid' and renovate stand by stand while still playing at the ground... I don't see them building new somewhere else.
Either way it has to happen for them to compete with the likes of Madrid, City etc... all the 'big' clubs in EU football have the new stadiums and even in this country now OT is slipping down the list of best grounds.

Where they play is the issue if they demolish. Liverpool, Evertons new ground or City seem the only options really.

The AJ Bell stadium, just the other side of the sewage works?

The problem for any rebuild is going to be the busy canal on one side and a main line railway track on the other

Apparently they own enough of the land around the stadium to potentially build a new stadium while keeping Old Trafford functional.

Would need to make some changes to the rail line and local access but thats probably more viable.

The money available is nowhere near enough at the moment. Radcliffe has pledged circa £280mil. Estimated costs are 5 times that amount.

AJ Bell holds 12k... If they play elsewhere it'll be City i think. The lack of alternatives leads me to think they'll look to go down the route of renovating stand by stand whilst still playing, rather than completely demolishing.

Spurs new ground cost 1.2b, Barca renovations 1.7b, Madrid renovations 1.4b... Scary costs

Looking at Google Maps, I assume that they own the car parks so it might be possible to build two or three of the stands of a new stadium before they had to demolish part of the existing ground. Perhaps they could do that? The site is limited by the railway on one side and the canal on the other side. Manchester is pretty solidly developed now so they would have to move well out of the city to find green or brown field alternative sites big enough.

I fear for the big northern clubs in the long term.

When the super league inevitably comes their international geographical location will make it difficult to compete for the top players and in this country the London clubs will become the elite football centre for this country.

It is already happening to some extent and has been for a while.

Money has ruined the sport unfortunately.

TBH I hated Spurs new stadium. Feels like they’ve just built an NFL ground where White Hart Lane used to be, and let them play “soccer” in it.

I can’t remember what Bernabeu felt like before, it’s 20 years since I was there, but it still feels like a football cathedral (ok, with a roof 🤣). I’ve no doubt at all that Old Trafford can be just like that, except in red rather than white.

TBH anything that undermines City’s dominance is fine with me. I absolutely hate the fact we now have a Bayern Munich situation in England.

To build a 80? 85k? all seater, all singing all dancing stadium will be £1bn ++ easy.

It has to be better than Spurs.....and Everton.

I honestly think the only way they could do it would be to move the stadium into the West car parks.

Jigging about with a main rail line - ooooooffffff. Night works only that, possibly building over the top so there is in effect a rail tunnel under the New OT. Adds a LOT of expense.
