Utd to develop OT into the‘Wembley of the North’

For a while since then Man City were in the 3rd tier, now that is cyclical to the extreme.
Well the reason City are where they are is a bottomless well of state money being pumped in, either for the best players or the best lawyers money will buy.

City were a basket case for most of the 90s and even under richer owners they were farcical in the early part of the century. I don't think they'll be going back to the third tier due to their on-field performances.

I don't think we're in the Dark Ages as a club. We've never ever been a fixture in European competitions and top division title challenges. Since I started watching Boro in 91/92 we've spent 15 seasons out of 33 in the top flight, 18 in the second tier. We're not competing with Real Madrid and Bayern, Liverpool, Arsenal and City, we're up against the top 10 clubs in the Championship and bottom 10 clubs in the PL. That's our pool. And we're hopefully getting back to the point in the cycle where we'll be a really competitive force against those clubs again.
I think you've missed the sarcasm in the original post when I said 'if they are being left behind, are we living in the dark ages.'

I could have plucked any Championship Club or even a team from the bottom half of the Premier League. United aren't being left behind, they are off the pace of the top European Clubs and still streets ahead of the other 84 English Clubs competing in the English Professional ranks. I would also say they are better than 90% of European Clubs but being in the top 10% isn't good enough for United.

Barcelona isn't the force they used to be and sit in third place behind Girona, Bayern went through a spell and so have many other clubs, it doesn't mean they are being left behind.

Edit: (Regarding 84 clubs - I meant 8 teams are able to compete with United in the PL and 84 teams are left in their wake)

Sorry, yeah, I've now re-read the thread and all of your views are indisputably correct and I am rethinking my own opinions as a result.

They will ground share with Man city, Flatten OT and rebuild. It's the fastest and most commercially viable option and we know the owners of the clubs biggest concern is the balance sheet.
