Kieran Scott on Twe12th Man Podcast.

Interesting that Villa only became after Rogers following the FA Cup game. Someone on here mentioned knowing someone at Villa and said Emery has a tendency of wanting random players and has been talked out of it plenty of times.

It probably threw our planning for January off significantly, no hint of the interest until nearly half way through the window and it forced us in to losing a key player, whilst making signing other players even more difficult.

Scott explains the situation well. It shows that Boro couldn’t demand a ridiculous fee. As Scott mentions, Rogers handled himself well but it was clear he wanted the move. At that point a compromise had to be reached that was good for all involved.

I was interested to hear about his plans with the academy.. bringing players in to help the more advanced players kick on.

Ie bringing in players to supplement the squad.

Both Robson and McClaren in our most successful years has a first team a second string AND an academy 11

We’ve spoke for so long about getting a solid 22 man squad together.. but to have that first team/academy link is invaluable.

Lots of U21s out of contract in the summer that we may do well to bring into the fold.

Yeah think that was me quoting what someone else had said to me about him.

This was it:
Yeah they said on commentary for the Sunderland game that Emery watched a bunch of our games on video for scouting before the FA Cup game, and came in the next day saying “get me Rogers”, was his number one target. Then the game against us made his mind up.

It’s cool that. You’d expect a manager of his calibre and experience (he’s managed PSG, Arsenal, Valencia and Sevilla for god’s sake) to just ask for an Mbappe, not fall in love with random players from the Champ and League One.

Thanks for this 👍

Frustrating if Rav goes after one season, especially post-Rogers. You'd hope that he'd recognise the benefits of staying about for another year.

Fingers crossed for the Carrick contract. Hopefully sales are limited, we get a new training pitch (!) and we can get in some quality for him to work with. Then we'll be a proper force.
