Just 1 home win from last 6

Ah sound.

If you can predict the future and you're that certain. I'll have Wednesday's lottery numbers please.

Doesn't matter with the fact we'll be getting some of our first teamers back, added to the fact we're only 4 points off top 6....

Lottery is a game of luck with no form to predict the outcome..... unlike boro and our form this season

What did the two games against Leicester (H) and Southampton (H) show?

That we beat them at home and probably lose away - you know like our record of won 12 and lost 12 suggests

Unlike the lottery

We need clean sheets its that simple but thats incredibly difficult when engel bombs foward and cover is thin on the ground

Exactly, and what if that 'form' can change? You know, like how our 'form changed from October to April last season? Then our 'form' changed at the back end of April last season, into May?

Or our form changed from August & September this season, to a decent run in October/November?

Seems like we're getting somewhere now....

We’ve got Leicester, Southampton, Ipswich and Hull away. Plus a home game against Leeds.

To make the playoffs Boro needs to start winning consistently. That hasn’t happened all season. Our home form is poor, we concede soft goals and are not clinical enough when in control of games. Those issues are not going away.
And we've got Bristol City, Preston, Plymouth, Stoke, QPR, Birmingham, Sheff Wed, Swansea, Watford....

Limited striker options appear to be a significant problem.
We create chances but don't score.
Our “strikers” are not up to scratch?

Exactly, and yet we're still only 4 points off top 6.

Therefore, we still have some sort of chance for top 6.

So anyone saying we have 'zero chance', basically need to get a grip of themselves and stop bed wetting, when there's a 1/3 of the season to go.

Zero chance and my bed sheets are nice and dry.....

Boro have 17 games left and need at least 29 points to even stand a chance of finishing 6th. Last season Sunderland had 69 and made it into the playoffs on the final day. And only because results went their way.

The previous season the team in 6th had at times finished with 77 points. If averaged out (which I haven’t done) the 75 point range is probably realistic. That means another 34 points needed.

Just enjoy the ride.

I'd rather we were coming up slightly short playing the way we do, with a model for the future of the club in place than putting up with the terrible, cynical football of Warnock, Pullis or the like in the hope that we somehow batter our way into the PL.

Remember, you can only include bad results when your are extrapolating our future performances based on previous results.

The bad resuls are the barometer and good results were just lucky.

That is how this goes. Same as if a player has a poor game they are league 1 at best!

So far, Hull are 6th on 45 points from 29 games. The main pack behind them have played 30 games. We're 12th with 29 games played.

Hull are averaging 1.55 points per game. If they continue that with their remaining 17 games, they'd finish on 71/72 points, meaning we'd need to get 30/31 points from our remaining 17 games. This works out to be around 1.8 points per game.

It would mean we had to up our game and improve on the current 1.41points per game we're currently achieving, but that extra 0.4points per game improvement that is needed isn't beyond us.

We may need more than 1.8 points per game, but we may need less.

But as it stands, we are within a shot and chance of pinching a PO spot.

As it stands. The odds to finish in the top 6 are:

West Brom 4/7,
Hull 6/4
Coventry 2/1
Middlesbrough 9/4
Sunderland 11/4
Rest 5/1+

Our odds look very very low going off some of the experts on this thread.

9/4 odds. And yet some fans think we have 'zero chance' -

What a laughable statement.

Zero chance is probably more of an expression than anything. I think people know it’s possible but they can see the inconsistency of the team, and conclude it’s unlikely.

We have absolutely zero chance of making the play offs and people need to realise this. Way to inconsistent, concede way to many goals and miss to many chances. Hopefully this is addressed in the summer

Gordon Bennett, what a terrible, terrible point of view. Yes it's more unlikely than likely, but even if there was only six games to go and we were 4 points off 6th I'd still want us to go for it with every fibre of our being, never mind 16. So much more football to play.
I think some people started watching football last Christmas, don't people realise how quickly it can change?
Absolutely zero chance.🙄

The championship is very tough this year.
The 3 teams that were relegated from the Premier League are all high quality.
Even teams in the mid table or in the relegation zone. They all have skilled managers joining them.
This year, I feel like Carrick is trying to be more results-oriented.
Our team didn't just attack like last year.
Modern tactics seem to be fighting everywhere, in every position, in every zone.
It doesn't seem as fun as before. But I have to admit that If you don't adapt, there is a high chance of losing.
Changing players almost the entire team And then there's the club's finances involved. Managers are already going to have a lot of trouble.
It's not that tough I've seen us throw points away hand over fist at home to mediocre average sides we are better than. Sunderland hull Rotherham, Coventry

Rotherham fair enough but we aren't better than Sunderland, Hull and Coventry. We're on a par with them at best. I suspect we will finish above Sunderland and below Hull and Coventry.
