Club legend Fabrizio Ravinelli, who scored 23 goals in just 45 matches for the club, has full faith that his former side can reach the final.

“I think we have a big chance because Middlesbrough at this moment have confidence. They have a possibility to make history and get back into the final. We know it is very hard to go to Chelsea and get to the final, but in football everything is possible.

“Chelsea are a fantastic team, but have many, many problems especially when the team needs to win the game because the defence has a lot of problems.”

“Boro will draw against Chelsea to reach the final
.”

“A 1-1 draw to put Middlesbrough into the final – definitely. Me and my family will sit on the sofa on Tuesday night and watch the game in our Boro shirts to push the team into the final because it is on Italian television.”

Note the "we" have a big chance

'Middlesbrough Legend' - ffs

I think we tend to remember Ravenelli negatively because of relegation and the fact he was quick to leave. In hindsight though, it’s not hard to see his point of view. He was a top quality striker in his peak. No chance he was sticking around playing Division 2 football.

Besides, imagine arriving at Boro from Juventus in 1996. Rockcliffe wasn’t yet available and English football culture was still crap food and English lads drinking. Despite the reported 42k a week it must have been a massive shock for someone as professional as Ravenelli.

The London sports writers and pundits chocked on their guacamole and chips!
They couldn't believe he would join a “little town in Yorkshire” instead of one of their “big” boys!
(y)

I always smile when fans have a dig at Rav and other players of that era. No one can tell me they didn't get excited watching them play in a Boro shirt, anything could happen. I also feel those having a dig are usually too young to remember them or weren't born and are relying on the opinion of others.

Totally agree with that

I don't live in Teesside and Boro have been irrelevant to most people for about 15 years. Whenever I talk football with someone for the first time they will almost always mention Ravanelli alongside Juninho and Emerson. He is what people think of when they think of Boro so like it or not he will always be described in the media as a Boro legend.

There were a lot of negatives to him but he scored over 30 goals in that season, our 1st goal at Wembley and he pretty much lead the way for foreign players coming here and taking us seriously. He raised the profile of the club massively and I have great memories of those times.

Exactly this.

In 1975 I visited a friend who lived in a small village near Bristol. We went to the pub one night got talking to a regular. When I told him I was from Middlesbrough all he could talk about was Mannion and Clough.
The point I am trying to make is that we had legends long before Rav that were recognised outside Teeside
