Is Andy Murray the greatest British sportsman

Probably not Jedi. Dally Thompson springs to mind as does the long jummpy bloke Edwards I think who has held the world record for a while. Then we have coe and overt who habitually broke each others world records.

It's such a broad category is difficult to say. When you have to beat someone else it's difficult to compare eras. If you are competing against a clock or tape measure it's easier to compare. Hence Edwards.
Daley is a great shout I loved watching him.

No, not for me.. best British tennis player ever, certainly in the modern era & with the athleticism of the modern game easily to argue for all time..

Would the likes of Fred Perry with modern training & kit be able to compete, we'll never know..

As for best sportsman / woman.. Daley Thompson would be up there for me though many, many others in contention..

My point is I think we forget how hard tennis was for this nation as winning any slam in mens tennins was tough but Wimbledon was like climbing Everest it was an almost impossible dream.

Murray has made that dream a reality.

We have had world champion boxers through all weights through all years sane with athletes but can you see another Brit winning Wimbledon any time soon after Murray goes.

He’s definitely the greatest in the current era that is stil plying his trade…
he may not be winning the big games now, but he’s still doing well against the grain, with robot body parts and age against him…

I don’t trust mo after the Salazar issue. I hope he’s clean but I can’t say I’m convinced.

Why be so loyal to such a toxic character and risk it all.

I don’t think Edwards is. He only really had one great summer, he didn’t dominate the sport for years. Great jump in 1995 though. Then he came back and won Olympic gold in 2000.

Chris Hoy dominated for a long time but he was mechanically assisted I think.

Nick Matthews - squash player

Oh hang on a minute he has dominated since 1995. He didn't need to make another jump.
