"Britain's Favourite 100 Walks" gets its annual New Year outing today. 9.25 am on ITV. It's a great watch. Some stunning photography. Worth recording and watching later in small chunks if two and a half hours is a stretch. Good inspiration for planned walking in 2023.
What's your favourite walk?

My favourite walk is a local one. I like parking up a newton and walking From there to topping then onto kildale. Stop at the cafe and walk back.

I’ve ran kildale to saltburn too along Cleveland way which I would say is a stunning run

Antother stunning run/walk was over robin hoods bay. Run up the cinder track to ravenscar and return back along the Cleveland way.

There’s a whole bunch of beauty locally

Captain Cooks to Roseberry Topping makes the list but, unfortunately, isn't a featured walk. WShame because we got some fantastic drone footage and only a small bit of it is used.

You should share it on here if you are allowed

Were you involved in making the show in terms of footage?

The problem with 'favourite walks' is that they're everyone else's favourite as well. My favourite walk is any on the NYM which takes me 'far from the madding crowd'. A bit of imagination and some off-pisteing makes it easy to achieve.
Read most Coast to Coast blogs on the net and they'll comment on how boring the NYMs are. As someone once said there's no such thing as a boring hill, just boring people.

One of my goals this year is to get out and about doing more walking, need to build up stamina and fitness so I can enjoy longer walks…

Goathland to Grosmont rail trail
Wolds Way near Thixendale
Couple of walks to and from our village, barely see a soul on them

Mentioned on another thread I want to go up Hellvellyn (although not via the ridges), High Cup Nick and also the Cleveland Way on my list as well - the latter I’m contemplating doing over 10 days next year with my son when he finishes uni although lots of work needed to get to that point.

Spoiler alert, Helvelyn is very high on the chart and the route we filmed is excellent if you don't fancy either of the edges. I've done both edges, but I have severe vertigo, so it's never a pleasant experience.

I’ve done the Like Wake walk a couple of times, that’s a good challenge, but achievable. Favourite walk is Pooley Bridge to Askham over Arkham fell, beautiful views as you descend into Askham and of Lowther castle. Great little pub in the village then back via Winder Hall and Heughscar hill. Perfect, about 8 miles.

Take a Hike on from tomorrow on Beeb 2 as well, think there are 5 Yorkshire walks starting with Malham Cove and Goredale Scar..
I done that walk before the Blackburn game last season. Scrambled up gordale waterfall, up to the tarn and back down the cove.

The next day I walked along the River from Bolton Abbey, passed the Strid and up to one of the bridges and back along the otherside to the stepping stones.

Targets this year -

C2C (not in a oner, just as and when)
Start ticking off the Wainwrights
Carry on crossing every bridge over the Tees (The first bridge in Cumbria is a canny walk and lovely and quiet).

Low Force to High Force

Around Rosedale/Dale Head following the former Ironstone railway.

Most of the ones near Teesside are easy to park up at and quiet to walk compared with say the Lake District.

I live living in Lincoln…..
But this thread makes me reminisce so much.

Just wish I had quick access up to the NYM
Enjoy

Low Force is my favourite place to stop and have a sandwich.

I use to include both Low and High Force in a circular walk I did with my Silver DofE groups. It is beautiful in Teesdale no matter what time of year.

Walking from Castleton following the Esk Valley Walkway through to Westerdale and on towards Blakey Ridge is beautiful and then returning towards Castleton by way of Botton Hall.

You don't have to go far afield to find beautiful walking in this area and most are within a 15 minute drive from Middlesbrough

NC

A distant relative of mine (Vipond) used to lease Low Force Farm and my dad stayed up there as a boy in the Summer in the 1940s. Him and his brothers supposedly jumped off the Winch Bridge @ Low Force. They were braver than me.
