Rehabilitation for everyone?

Some of the key anti-death penalty campaigners in the US are those formerly involved in the execution process.
Albert Pierpoint stated in his book that he became against the death penalty.

I would do it without question for scum like this... I would bet there would be a queue behind me too

Some of your replies are disturbing, I wonder if the authorties need to keep a closer eye on you.

If it was clear cut like this yes of course
No one is 'apologising' - the OP asked for it to be EXPLAINED to him - simple definitions/explanations were given - you started getting abusive.

of course there was no need or reason to give the OP an explanation, because when you read the OP's second post you will see that he had already made his opinion & mind up.

Yep, it's a slippery slope.

Plus pretty much what Newy said. I do believe this government are a lot more sinister than most people realise. Thankfully they're also fairly incompetent.

Some people are beyond rehabilitation. Some probably do "deserve to die". I certainly wouldn't lose any sleep over it. But we need to be better than a society that murders it's criminals.

Wonder how many advocating the death penalty would be willing to push the button? A few individuals in the current government no doubt, but I'd hope most well rounded humans abhor the the thought of killing another person full stop and certainly the idea of doing it in cold blood.
I'd have absolutely no problem 'pushing the button' to get rid of that excuse for a human if god forbid he'd done what he'd done to any of my children. Many many others wouldn't have a problem either. He raped and killed an 11 year old girl. Read the statement from the father. I'd bet he wouldn't have a problem 'pushing the button' too.

amazingly it costs more in legal fees and the costs of putting them down than it does to keep them in jail, or thats what the crack is in America, with death penalties its not just loose your case, take your sentence, its endless appeals and stays of execution because they have to make sure that they are legally correct to go ahead with it.

I mean talking about giving people a basic living wage in relation to this offence....nothing to do with it whatsoever.

You can't have the death penalty for lots of reasons. Partly because the justice system is massively ****ed up. No money in it. You know the scene in the naked gun where he's clearing out his draw and goes "here's the missing lebowski evidence - he was innocent after all. Whatever happened to him?" " He went to the chair three years ago Frank". This would happen.

Problem is when someone effectively becomes property of the state, they can take advantage of that.

I think this is what ultimately gets people's backs up.
Prisoners given a bed, a roof, nutritious meals every day, training for jobs, actual jobs and other rewards whilst we have veterans sleeping on the streets, women forced to live in hostels after escaping an abusive partner or kids relying on school meals for their only source of food for the week as a couple of examples.

As for the scumbag in the opening post, an open and closed court case with a mountain of evidence and confessions he should be exterminated.
That’s not the prisoners fault, be annoyed at the government that allow veterans to live on the street and not the prisoners who have zero control over the situation. We are one of the richest countries on the planet, we can afford to house prisoners in safe conditions whilst also ensuring no one needs to live on the street.

If you’re suggesting the death penalty as a way to reduce crime, look at the countries where it’s used, they have far higher levels of crime than countries which don’t

Different if it's your own children obviously. I'd want to kill him in that instance I'm sure. Doesn't necessarily mean it's right.

And it's different from thinking he deserves to die (he probably does) to saying you'd be happy to personally execute anyone given the death penalty.

Thankfully I've never taken a life, but read about the experiences of those who have. It's no small thing, no matter how much of a monster it is you'd be killing.

Anyone saying they'd happily do it, with all due respect, doesn't really know what they're saying they'd sign up to (and neither do I to be fair).

I am annoyed at the government.
Is prison a deterrent in this country compared to say a South American country's prison system?

I suggesting that the most disgusting crimes be met with the appropriate measures. Killing three children, raping one of them and an adult and then still been able to live a comfortable life, granted behind four walls, isn't an appropriate punishment.

Not sure the guy will have a 'comfortable life' Randy. He'll prob be either in segregation or constantly looking over his shoulder. They like to make examples of such types in prison. Just look at the lives similar inmates have inside - they get attacked and even killed.
