You need to spend money just to maintain your position in the top 6, at least 150m a year. If they get in champions league or win something good for them, just to put it down to money is daft when the whole premier league is about money and the amounts they are spending are consistent with all the teams that they are competing with.If they won something before the Saudi money then I'd understand the frustration.
But their success is going to be very similar to Chelsea/City....trophies bought, not won.
So I'm not overly bothered.
They'll obviously go mental and wild with celebrations when they finally win something, which they will do looking at the shed load of cash they're throwing about, but it won't be due to hard work (as such).
Their future success will be heavily tainted....as is Chelsea's & City's.
Newcastle wouldn't be where they currently are without the huge investment from the Saudi's. That isn't even up for debate. You need to spend money just to maintain your position in the top 6, at least 150m a year. If just money bought you titles etc, then Man Utd would have won the league more than city in recent years, the money causes more problems if the team is not managed, look at how many teams have spent crazy amounts of money in single windows but not managed things well and ended up with squads full of people just there for the money who really don't care about the team now they have the contract that has set them up for life, after all if they don't perform they will no doubt go out on loan to a nice warm country and still pocket their Premier League Wages for another 3 years
I must admit the older I get the less bothered I get. I'm into my 50s now so by the law of averages even NUFC must win something in my lifetime. I don't consider the Fairs Cup a relevant trophy
everyone spends in the prem, they are not the biggest spenders, they are about bang average for that league, epically for the top end of the table. Even forrest have spent the same if not more. Most of the teams trying for the top 6 will continue to spend more than 100m per season, you need to or you loose your position at the top end of the league, They are not really spending more than anyone else. What do you expect them to do, just go back to penny pinching? they need to spend after ashley as their squad was the pits lol. 100m can be busted on one star player or 2, its not really a massive amount of money in the premier league.Newcastle wouldn't be where they currently are without the huge investment from the Saudi's. They'll continue to blast £100m's for the next few seasons (maybe even longer!) until they've won something.
Yes, money doesn't necessarily guarantee you success - Utd have and still are proving that. But if/when Newcastle do win something, it will down to the fact their new owners have thrown tons of money their way.
So yes, any trophies they win now will be tainted with Saudi money.
Celtic song...if you know your history that is...i'll always remember 1966 when Everton won the fa cup " and if you know your history..."

Pretty much sums up my thoughts. In the 90s the thought of them winning stuff terrified me, but I was young then and I suppose deep down I knew that Keegan was a likeable bloke who had a likeable approach and even some of their players were quite likeable (Ferdinand, Shearer etc) as England players.I'm surprisingly not actually that fussed.
Probably because it doesn't feel like a real achievement from them considering how they're moving towards it.
If they win something, it's always going to be a Saudi trophy.
It's obviously not the fact they're spending big that's the problem, it's where the money is coming from.
Sadly they will break into that group because of the money and they have the support. If Spurs can...They can win as many trophies as they like with Saudi money, they'll still not get the thing their fans really want - respect and awe from Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Man City fans
I think this is true as well. Even Spurs can’t gain that respect, Newcastle have a lot further to go even if they are in the CL spots a third of the way into the season. They can win as many trophies as they like with Saudi money, they'll still not get the thing their fans really want - respect and awe from Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, Man City fans
Spurs may have broken into the group but of the big 6, they are definitely the smallest and least successful by a huge distance.Sadly they will break into that group because of the money and they have the support. If Spurs can...
I think it's only a matter of time before the ground is expanded - they will find a way to do it.
I would welcome a european super league when clubs can out spend each other, maybe, if, 10 teams are in this european super league they can have 10 major cup tournaments & handicap each tem who has wona previous trophy so eah team will end the season with a trophyI wouldn't worry too much about it. It's becoming increasingly meaningless. Soon unless you're owned by an Oil State you might as well not bother.
I'd be more than happy for them all to F off to a "Super League" and leave the rest of us to it.
