Paddy McNair

McNair's problem has always been jack of all trades master of none. He can 'do a job' in a few different positions without ever properly nailing down a dominant role in the team.

I like him and think he's an ideal squad player, but if he's not happy doing that then I agree he'll probably be sold. Certainly it seems like Carrick prefers others to McNair.

Don’t know what’s happened to Mcnair. His form has dropped off a cliff. He was generally decent the last couple of years barring the odd rick every now and then. However this year he’s been really poor.

Warnock and wilder both loved him as a CB but I think Wilder messed up this season insisting he had to play RCB when he’d been a regular on the other side. Seemed to knock his confidence when he was then asked to play all over the place this season. I do think it’s probably time for him to move on. He’s been here through some of our poor years and not exactly been the standout player.

He looked like he couldn't give a **** anymore v Hudds. Hackney at least looks like he wants to run with the ball

Disagree with this and agree with @Sheriff_John_Bunnell_ret , he can put a great cross in, particularly from dead balls. It always amazed me Wilder took him off set pieces as he put some great crosses in.

It's his collapsible legs that frustrate me the most, he goes to ground too easily and isn't tough enough to be a regular.
The number of times I’ve seen him whack it out of play from a set piece is amazing - i just don’t see why anyone would say he’s a great crosser of a ball. He really isn’t

He’s better in defence than midfield.
The team is better without him.
He is the most one footed player I’ve seen
He’s a big lad who can’t head the ball
He’s a big lad who is as soft as *****
Goes down to easy (Luton last year)
Takes 4 minutes to pick a pass

I'd be tempted to sell just to keep the money churning.

I think he's been a successful signing, and he's definitely played his part in some great days for Boro, but we paid £5m for him and he's not irreplaceable.

If we could claim back some of that money, it'll only help.

Been a good servant and was one of our best under Warnock and early Wilder. Think the criticism is overblown for a player with 150+ appearances for the club. Always a useful player to have but may want to move on if he’s not in first XI
