But not all. What next, hammer the under 40s because they didn't turn out?Well, why should they be exempt from financial pain. A fair few will have voted for the cabal in power
Fair enough but the bar needs to be set at about 12' 6". Will that be OK with you?Pensioner benefits should be means tested. Current system is completely unaffordable with our ageing population.
I take you’re point but these ***** have hit everyone, what’s so sacrosanct about the triple lock??But not all. What next, hammer the under 40s because they didn't turn out?
Well if you support their philosophy I guess that's fair enough.I take you’re point but these ***** have hit everyone, what’s so sacrosanct about the triple lock??
It's not a race to the bottom ffs.I take you’re point but these ***** have hit everyone, what’s so sacrosanct about the triple lock??
Divide and conquer, easy isn't it?It's not a race to the bottom ffs.
In any case, pensioners typically have no way to increase their earnings whereas (the argument goes) working age people do. Of course that's not always the case.
Which is why, as I said, it's not a race to the bottom!
They’re ****ed already, look at the affordability of home ownership. I don’t sit in either age bracket but the word ‘pensioners’ is emotive for some as it conjures images of people sat with blankets over their knees, huddled round a single bar electric fire, whereas in most cases it’s far from the truth.Well if you support their philosophy I guess that's fair enough.
In which case, why not hammer the youngsters?
It's more easy than it should be as so many gullible fools fall for it every time.Divide and conquer, easy isn't it?
You have evidence for this 'most cases' I assume? They’re ****ed already, look at the affordability of home ownership. I don’t get this why this ‘triple lock’ has remained in place.
Oh, I agree believe me, let’s get rid of these *******, have a GE, try and create a fairer society. It's not a race to the bottom ffs.
In any case, pensioners typically have no way to increase their earnings whereas (the argument goes) working age people do. Of course that's not always the case.

Elementary, I know scores of pensioners, I also know scores of people aged 18-40, I know who is generally worse off.You have evidence for this 'most cases' I assume?
Oh look, it's time for an anecdote......Elementary, I know scores of pensioners, I also know scores of people aged 18-40, I know who is generally worse off.
No, an observation based on my experience. I can’t quote figures it’s what I see. Do you see it differently? Or, as you put it, have evidence to the contrary?Oh look, it's time for an anecdote......
There are no groups exempt, apart from their rich friends. No, an observation based on my experience. I can’t quote figures it’s what I see. Do you see it differently? Or, as you put it, have evidence to the contrary?
I just think that things are getting increasingly difficult. Take home ownership, I’m lucky enough to be a home owner, albeit mortgaged but my children will probably not be so lucky. I don’t think that was the case for the previous generation. I’m not for anyone having less but how can one group be exempt from being screwed by this lot?
Which facts show otherwise? There are no groups exempt, apart from their rich friends.
Even if the triple lock stays we still have the worst pensions in Europe.
Even if the triple lock stays we are talking about a rise of around £20 a week.
How can you possibly think that pensioners have it good when the facts so clearly show otherwise?
The facts I posted above, did you miss them?Which facts show otherwise?
I know it’s said that those of working age have the opportunity to generate more income but this is an impossibility for many.
You miss my point.
Things seem to be going backover is the point I’m making, clumsily I’ll admit but it will get harder for the generations that follow, that’s crazy isn’t it?
Ok, comparing how pensioners fare in this country as opposed to other European countries isn’t as straightforward as you suggest, there are scores of variables. The facts I posted above, did you miss them?
You could argue that’s happening already. But not all. What next, hammer the under 40s because they didn't turn out?
Which will give someone on full pension the princely sum of £200 a week. What on earth will they do with all that excess cash?Ok, comparing how pensioners fare in this country as opposed to other European countries isn’t as straightforward as you suggest, there are scores of variables.
So.. if the triple lock stays the pensioners will be £80 a month better off, how many others, people working, people in receipt of disability allowance, universal credit will receive such an uplift in their income?
