Stake in the ground, line in the sand, nail to the wall. coat off, gloves off.. name on flag.

Easier said than done, but can anyone even say it?

Who do you bring in for manager to replace Chris Wilder, to save us from relegation, to get us promoted whist keeping costs down and keeping fans happy?

Who do you go for? How do you play? Who do you play? What players do you go for in January?

Spinning plates, reading fortunes, telling the future.

Obviously Bernie Slaven has all the right ideas, sell us off to a Chinese/Arabic consortium, bring in someone like Pep Guardiola. have a five, ten year plan, move the training ground up to Scotland, wear Green and white hoops.. etc etc etc

Everyone in the Championship is in the same boat, differences are paper thin, any team can beat any team, inconsistency is the only constant.

'Schrodinger's Manager' - one who has already failed is sacked one year into the future, yet is also the most obvious candidate with huge potential and is better than the rest..

Carlos Corberán.
Not often such a perfect option is available.
Will Mellor as his assistant.. might just work.

Personally I would stick with a back three.

But I play
Lenihan - Fry - Bola

Mix of pace, leadership, and the best player in the middle.

I play McNair and Dijksteel as a deep two in midfield.

Mcnair can definitely pass forward, Dijksteel can run around and add pace/bite to central midfield. They can add additional cover for wings.

Gives Howson a rest - Dijksteel played in midfield as a youngster before being converted to fullback.

Continue with Jones/Giles wide.

McGree in the centre behind the two strikers.

I would give Forss/Hoppe a go.
Always change both strikers at 60 minutes. Encourage them to run themselves into the ground.

I'd be happy with Carrick or Edwards - Young thoughtfull coaches.

Of all the candidates mentioned, Wolf is the one who appeals most. Reiziger also but I'd be surprised if we can prise him away from Ajax.

4-3-3 pressing style. Forge some links with his former employers (Leverkusen, Genk and Stuttgart) for some young loans in January.

Convince Xabi that Florian Wirtz is still only a development prospect, should be nowhere near the first team and has naturally home in the NE of England to develop properly on loan, for five seasons.

I don't think I'd be far off that myself tbf.. maybe starting with Muniz & Akpom would be my only chin stroker.

Carrick would be a tough one to get over the line and I'm not too hot on Edwards really.. but I don't know that much about him.

Carlos Corberán and Hannes Wolf both sound pretty exotic.. Corberán seems to be most fans choice (West Brom and Boro)

The problem is the job is nowhere near as attractive as some on here make out. High turnover of players, lowly league position, playing squad weakness and a chairman who has employed a revolving door policy towards managers. We are a pale shadow of the club we once were- well done, Mr Gibson
7th last season.. no pressure this season. to be fairly well backed in the next two transfer windows.. hopeful of a promotion.

How far off are we from last season? I think that depends on what the new managers hears from the current squad.

Carrick but only with Phelan and Meulensteen as coaches.

We are going to get nowhere near attracting coaches with the experience and track record of Phelan and Meulensteen without them working under somebody like Carrick.

Always tomorrow isn’t it? We are in a relegation flight - last season is completely irrelevant. So no point harping on about that! We are worse off and as a club going backwards. That’s the reality at present
