Dover Ferries : Long Delays

This is what we're up against, the Nasty Party want to remove migrant freedom of movement, appears it also means restrict the movement of the UK population also. Turkeys voting for Xmas has never been more apt. Unfeckinbelievable.

Some people, like @Stocko still aren't getting it. I think that's one of the most insane things about brexit. People who were conned are going to such desperate lengths to pretend they weren't conned

Of course I get it, I’ve never been conned into voting, and never will.
I’m lying, I voted for Ian wrigglesworth many moons ago, (because I could) he lost I think and never had the desire to vote since, but what I do understand is that you are a Tory voter, so I really don’t know how you have the audacity to preach to me. 😉

I have every right to preach to upyou if you keep defending brexit. After everything it’s done

No you are saying that. You're either lying by saying you "went straight through" which you can't do anymore. Or you're saying the border guards aren't doing there job. Jesus son, I've explained it three times to you now
The only person not listening and once again getting personal (calling people liars) is you.

If there are very few punters at the terminal, and when your trains been called you just drive steadily up to the border controls, wait your turn to hand over your passport and then drive round to your allocated Lane and wait for the gates to go up. Plenty of booths open and it was just a steady crawl through.

We seemed longer in the lane after passport control than getting through passport control.

Hey, but you will be right and will no better about my experience. 😜

Can I ask you a question, have you ever been wrong about anything? 🤣🤣🤣

I understand the ramifications of Brexit
but its funny how you have to blame every negative thing that happens on Brexit, do you think the school holidays had any blame for the queues last week?

He could answer, Yes, he has been wrong about something but then say that answering Yes about being wrong about something, was what he was wrong about. Blooming neck I'm half confusing myself. Enjoy the rest of your Gallic wood turning odyssey.

I'm blaming delays caused by a hard border check on the result of us voting for a hard border.
It's fairly obvious. That's why I think this country is so ridiculous. People like you try so very very hard to argue against a blatant truth. I know it's the brexit way, to blatantly lie in the face of truth but I do think it's crazy

On this occasion it is you arguing against the truth. I have given you my experience when travelling on the Euro at a none busy time and you can’t accept it and have directly called me s liar.

Travelling at none busy times is easy. Input your Advance Passenger Information and health deceleration prior to travelling, arrive at the entrance booth and it recognises your vehicle, choose your train and go to the terminal and wait for your train to be called. A steady stream of vehicles making there way through passport control - always been this way. Passport stamped and directed to a Lane to wait to be loaded onto a train.

At busy times, this will be very different due to the volume trying to get through.

Oh, and just to p1ss you off a little more, I was directed through an EU Citzens passport booth.

None of it pees me off. That's the issue. I was jus pointing out that the passport check we asked for is that we need our passport stamped and they need to check every page to ensure we haven't spent of 90 days in the EU. Sooooo. And I hate to repeat myself but it remains a fact you can't go straight through anymore. Unless the checks aren't done. I think that's the 4th time I've explained it to you now,

This is spot on and it's also slowing down arrivals at airports. Both here and abroad.

No, they don’t need to check every page, you are making things up to suit. Passport opened up on face page, quick scan - that part is the same, flick to your last stamp page and new stamp added. You are talking seconds longer.

Doesn’t that negate the reason for checking the passport in the first place If they take seconds to do it. I don’t believe that can be the case. The official has to check photo, visas, stamps etc surely otherwise why bother?

Beside I think we've reached peak "Brexit discussion" now haven't we? We ALL agree that things are worse. The only argument left is on the level of worse. Goes to show that brexit is an unmitigated disaster. Even the Brexitist can only argue that things are only slightly worse now. Which, again when you think about it, shows how's crazy it is.

I have always agreed that things are worse under Brexit but are pointing out the volume of travellers added to the chaos caused by it that weekend.

I can’t speak for airports but at the tunnel the photo page is scanned by a machine and was always the case. All passports are chipped these days and I would think entry and exit must be logged by that. The date stamp is the extra that was added due to Brexit.

that isn't strictly true, they are supposed to check how long you have been in the EU in the last 180 days, that may just be the last stamped page to review, or it could be pages if you commute over there for work.

The process at the booth has been very quick when I've gone through any European passport control recently. Scan passport, quick look at face v picture in passport. Find empty page. Stamp.

They don’t check all the pages. I have (from my work days) a passport with extra pages that has over a hundred stamps and visas from all over the world. When I went to an EU country last month, the customs officer didn’t check any of these, merely looked for a fresh page. The only place I’ve been where I’ve been questioned about my travel was the US, and that was due to the number of Arabic visas.

I would think they're doing very little in the way of checking at the moment just to get people through but all it takes at Dover is someone to fall foul of the rules and you have a bottleneck.

That could be expired or close to expired passports, a query on someone who is close to 90 days in 180, or a myriad of other, possibly more serious, reasons.

They probably carried out 30k+ passport checks on Saturday. Even a few seconds adds up over the course of the day and any issue at the booths or on the approaching roads will cause a major problem.

From May 2023, non EU citizens will also need to show that they've paid for the visa waiver.
