Sunak's windfall tax and grants

None of this would have happened without partygate. Remember Sunak and the rest of the corrupt cabal are ideologically opposed to any of these measures and are perfectly happy to see people starve and freeze. He is being forced to do this to save the scumbag in chief. Sounds like the windfall tax is in part at least, a tax avoidance scheme.

Good to see them adopting Labour's policies though.

How does this help my family, I can't make head or tail of it.

Obviously the £400 off of our energy bills will be fully appreciated. We get universal credit payments but not sure if we will be getting the payments of £650 announced.

My understanding is if you get UC you will be eligible for the £650

If you have anyone eligible for warm home discount or disability etc there are additional payments

Is that regardless of the amount of universal credit you get each month? I've read of people only getting £20 per month to those getting more than £600. So regardless of what you are paid each month you'll receive £650 in two lump sums on top of your usual UC payments?

I'm well off so I don't need the £400, rather it go to those in poverty...... the millions of them.
And there are millions like me that can soak up the extra fuel bills that also don't need the money.
Is it so difficult to have a cu off eg anyone who pays a lot of tax in the higher tax bracket?

It won't go to them, it will just go straight to the energy companies. We're not getting a penny of it.

Public money straight into private coffers, as usual.

Shhh don’t call it a windfall tax as this govt don’t do those remember.

“The disadvantage with those sorts of taxes is that they deter investment in the very things that they need to be investing in – new technology, in new energy supply.”

He did not rule it out completely, but added: “I didn’t think they’re the right thing. I don’t think they’re the right way forward.

I don’t think anyone should get a penny in their bank account. It should just be credited on your fuel bill
Why?

The £400 is specifically for energy and is going straight off bills.

The £650 (and the additional disability payments etc) is cost of living help, not specifically for energy, so goes into bank accounts. Entirely up to recipients how they choose to use it to ease their cost of living issues.

I don't think anyone should need to have to rely on public money to pay their energy bills at all. We've voted in such a way for over 4 decades that it's essential, unfortunately.

The energy sector should be owned by all of us, solving the problem straight away.

It's wrong that it wasn't means tested like with furlong money. Not every house hold in Britain will require £400 quid should be given to those in need or the working poor.

They’ve rushed it up because of sue grays report to change the headlines ASAP. As a result there is little details of how you get the funds, how the windfall tax works and where the 10billion comes from.
Kirsty Blackman of SNP was better than Rachel reeves of labour.
She detailed the OBR figures that Sunak really has at least 32billion fiscal headroom to support people and so only 10billion when people and SMALL BUSINESSES are desperate!!!

If your account is credited you don’t have to pay that bill you have extra money to do the other things and I’ll be honest looking at a lot of central boro the money would only go on weed and drink . Is that what you want me to say

I don’t want you to say anything, just curious why you feel it should be dictated how people send it.

The average family are suffering now should they not get help or should they have all their disposable income wiped out and be on the same as a family on income support. Minus the support

Yeah that's irking me too.

Our household isn't poor but it ain't rich either.
£400 towards our energy bills will help massively this winter, as it will those on the bare bones of their arses, I'm not bothered about the rich, £400 is nothing to them anyways.

Because some will just drink it. Some will buy a few bits of stone island snide and some will gamble it away.
I'd also like to see it come straight off the bills.
Everyones bill will be over £650 so in the almost impossible event that it will free any other money up they can waste that.......... at least the money will go a little bit towards their energy needs.
