I know they broke plenty of hearts beating Brazil in 1982, but they were a cracking team.

For Boro Festa (obvs) closely followed by Branca.

Non-boro Maldini probably with Totti and Del Piero not far behind.

Fabio Cannavaro was a joy to watch as a centre back. Like a deluxe Southgate - you don't need to be a beast as a defender if you can read the game better than anyone else.

Also honourable mention to the big Aussie, Christian Vieri. The complete centre forward for me. Bit underrated compared to some of his peers IMO.
 
Del Piero, i was always him when playing footy in the garden or over the park. Thought he was absolutely mint.

Boro wise, Festa.
 
I used to love Beppe Signori, unbelievable talent who scored some outrageous goals, had a wand of a left foot, pace to burn and could go past defenders at will. Ended his career as a 40 year old playing in the Hungarian league.
 
We’re off to ‘La Finalissima’ next week - Italy v Argentina. My first trip to the new Wembley and my first ever international game, even though I am a right old fart. Hoping to see some Italian flair and - fingers crossed - a bit of Messi magic.
 
Paolo Maldini

As a kid my favourite players were always left backs or left wingers and I loved the AC Milan teams of the 90s. Maldini has to be the greatest left back of all time, unbelievable player.

Maldini, Cannavaro and Nesta with another special mention of Signori, i bought a Lazio shirt with his name on, used to love watching Gazzetta and the italian footy on a sunday on ch 4
