Time for fences again

Seems to be pitch invasions are becoming more and more frequent now, following on from Billy Sharp's assault last night is it time to reintroduce fences before someone is seriously injured?

I would definitely not like to see this return but if not fences what is the answer ?

Something has got to be done, though I feel like the fences would unfairly restrict the view of disabled supporters who tend to sit in the lower tiers.

The stewards clearly can't/won't prevent getting on the pitch, and it's happening in so many matches lately.

It's interesting isn't it. In the 80s (under an authoritarian right-wing gvt) football "fans" were victimised, put behind fences, banned from attending and travelling.

Logic would dictate that the current gvt would implement similar measures however the bloke assaulting Sharp is probably their core base so maybe not.

Agree totally about pitch invasions .What worry's me is the flares etc being let off inside grounds. There are some flares etc that are only to be used for rescue reasons on lifeboats that if they get into wrong hands the could and will kill or mame some innocent person.

Get the governing FA to make an example of the club, their club forfeits the match and the opposition team wins?

Or an automatic five games in an empty stadium next time?

Banning orders have zero influence/effect on fans attitudes and behavior in the stadium, it seems to have been proven from this season at least.

Life time bans aren't enough.

They need severely punishing.

Jail time.

Huge fines.

Only then will you see a massive improvement.

It's become normalised for trivial achievements and because it's not being punished in any way the fans know there is no risk to doing it. Other things like players posing for selfies or giving their shirt to kids running on just encourages it. Won't be long before it's happening after routine league wins.

They are never going to dish out proper bans for a pitch invasion when there are so many people doing it. It's difficult to control a mob once they get going so it's got to be preventative by discouraging it somehow. I don't really have an answer how

snipers on the stadium roof?

what ***ed me of was them all with their hand up holding a phone, trying to get selfies, the players should be told not give selfies with anyone on the pitch.

Some competent stewards would help too. We seem to have gone down the route of contract events management type stewarding, which will no doubt work out cheaper through Baxter Personnel, but they're only there for their £10 an hour, and don't really care if anyone goes on the pitch or not.

Agree with the above though, fences are not the answer, but lifetime bans and big fines for anyone, regardless of age, is needed. Same for anyone who is proven to be using racist or homophobic language.

Life time bans and jail time for individuals entering the field of play. Then there should be a yellow card type banning system in place for the club.

IE if it happens twice in a season then 1 game behind closed doors. If it happens 3 times then a further two matches behind closed doors and so on.

If it’s a full invasion. The club should have to play 10 matches behind closed doors.

Fans will think twice if their club and fellow fans are punished.

I think that's part of the problem too. We live in this social media world now where people need to post pictures of themselves on the pitch, or what they're having for their tea etc.

I'm not sure they will. these idiots are clearly selfish, and only care about themselves. I agree with the sentiment, but it's those individuals who need to be punished, and punished hard.

I think that’s unrealistic to punish individuals on the scale of a full invasion.

Individual invaders yes.

But if the clubs and fellow fans are punished then this will reduce in my opinion. They will no longer be lauded and more likely be given grief if their actions result in fans not being able to attend.

Imagine in Forest had to play their first 10 Prem games in 2 decades behind closed doors. Do you think there will be another pitch invasion in Nottingham or any other club anytime soon? Next years play off finalists won’t invade that’s for sure.

Plus it will force clubs to put stronger measures in place. Like having dedicated security staff and more police in high profile games. Because they will lose out financially.

No, definitely not. Anything but. Remember history, remember Hillsborough and Bradford - never ever put up fences again.
For a start make it totally and utterly unacceptable for fans to go on to that pitch. No cheering of individual supporters racing across the turf. No people on forums feeling sorry for parents getting lifetime bans for filming their kids actions. Make it zero tolerance and unacceptable from other fans. Even if we have to kick hundreds out of football, do this and applaud that if it is what it takes to stop it.
