Just Seen the Covid 2nd Wave Projections

Don’t get why you keep mentioning people wanting to watch football. If they can delivery it safely which is what they intend to do then what is so bad about it? Football is a release for a lot of people , me included. Aslong as it is done safely and I carry on my life how I have being , following the guidelines my conscience will be clear. It is awful what is happening on a daily basis but any sign of hope and normality is a good sign surely
Because that's how strongly I feel about meaningless matches been played, I don't bang on to you about how much you love the PL & players from abroad, I don't why you haven't posted about the many, many posters about Cummings
For me normality & hope is meeting my family in my garden & having a beer, not a spectator free meaningless games, you feel how you want to I will feel differently

Exactly because it’s meaningless to you, they would of been meaningless to you even if there was no pandemic that’s why you are being so against it. If it’s delivered safely there isn’t a problem. Why bring the Cummings subject up? I haven’t commented on it as there was to many posts and it’s not really something I was bothered about posting about tbh. Strange comment that?

And its meaningless to me is the is the very reason I keep saying it
OK I'll ask the question I asked right at the beginning of all this awful virus, why postpone all the other league & allow the PL to play, what is the difference between Liverpool & Stockton
You can dress it up as much as you want, it's all down to greed, I will continue to call it, as I see it, meaningless matches, if it upsets you tough that's how I see it
I've read the comments about the matches so far, pointless, why someone wants to watch a game of football with no fans inside the ground, no tackling is beyond me
But I'll finish how I started why have all the records of the, so called lesser clubs, been wiped out & not the important teams

Can't see how televising non attended football will increase deaths. Mind, I suppose those involved in game might be at risk.

My boss sits on a London Borough advisory/response weekly committee on covid-19. Evidence presented last week said second wave as big as first is almost inevitable especially if they don't sort out test and trace. Potentially smaller 3rd wave.

In Italy when the government thought they were bringing the cases down the made it another 2 weeks of solid lockdown, reducing it spreading further, yes the economy will suffer, but our government kept preaching if they lifted it too soon the consequences would be far greater, yet for me with the number of cases dropping keep it is as it is, strangle the *%+#@#* & hopefully we can meet our loved ones knowing we have, as far as possible, eliminated the virus

Lockdowns over, it's been over for weeks. Get rid of that furlough and see how quickly people get back to work.

Surely it is inevitable though, we have seen examples where one person has indirectly infected hundreds, once things go back to normal surely its only a matter of time until a second wave?

With Spanish flu (different virus, but its spread is similar and it was a pandemic like CV19) there were 3 waves - the first in the late spring of 1918 then the worst one In October to December 1918 then the smallest one in late 1919. It probably stopped after 30% of the UK population had been infected and 225,000 had died. The virus probably mutated into a less deadly form by late 1919.

So far we are at approximately 7% (according to the Government experts) infections and according to Financial Times about 55,000 UK dead. I do doubt the 7% figure a little, because with this virus a lot of people can get infected without showing any symptoms. (all the cases found amongst Premiership and Championship squad were people showing no signs and the figures were higher than the 0.2% to 0.25% range that is supposed the infection rate at present i.e. between 1 in 500 and 1 in 400 of the population). I would expect people under 50 to have a less than average chance of carrying the virus which was the tested group. An anti body test will confirm the figure for total infections, its supposedly going to be available from June for the UK population if the Government and its agencies are able to organise this.

We are all hoping there is no second and third wave. A vaccine in late 2020 would hopefully stop a third wave. My worry is too many people start doing what they like from mid June and are not willing or able to wait for a vaccine. The very crowded beaches on Monday seem to confirm this, the ultimate to me were people buying ice cream cornets from vendors who had no PPE. If the vendor had the virus he/she could spread it to 100s through the eaten cornet. Tracing could reduce infection rates if people asked to self isolate do so.

Furlough is the only thing stopping businesses collapsing or mass redundancies at the moment

No.. seriously?! Wow... I did not know that. /s

Apologies for my sarcasm, I should state that furlough is costing the public purse 15 billion a month (or half the UK's defence budget) so the only thing that is stopping mass collapse is the same thing that's going to cause mass collapse.

The medical advisers keep stating the R rate is too close to 1 and gives cause for concern, but simultaneously the government who are guided by the science continue to reduce lockdown measures which have reduced the R. I don't get it. Surely you would want to get to a position where the R rate is low and you would have room for manoeuvre before it goes past1 and additionally have the range of services in place that can support it continuing to be repressed, such as an working and effective tract and trace system, wide spread anti body testing, care home protection plans and enough PPE and medical equipment in place should a second qave happen before the brakes come off the lockdown. Just the way I would think if handling it.
