The Special Forces never communicate with the media on any live ongoing operations they take part in, that's just the way they operate. I'd be surprised if we didn't have a military presence in Ukraine right now gathering intelligence as we speak.

After all, one of the reasons the Special Forces are so effective is because they rely on the element of suprise.

This should be a UN issue and separate from NATO, surely the onus should be on the world to act and not just those within NATO, I'm not sure if boots on the ground is the answer or what scope the UN have to support the Ukrainian forces, but this demands a multilateral response.

The other question is would NATO support of the Ukraine with the provision of arms, for example, be viewed by the Kremlin as an act of hostility and lead to an escalation of tensions around the Balkans.

The really worrying thing is that the power of escalation is wholly within the hands of Putin, we've failed to heed the lessons of history and allowed a megalomaniac despot to take the strings of the puppet show.
This is the other terrifying prospect, it's viewed as an act of aggression if he says it is.

Clearly there are obvious actions (such as soldiers deployed) but there's a whole raft of grey which skirts around the edges. My estimate is that if any of these "grey" actions have the desired impact and weaken the Russian operation severely they would be classed as an act of aggression.

Troops on the ground and its WW3, nuclear war and billions of lives lost
That might be a scenario but we cant not do anything militarily because of just incases. I think we have a moral obligation to do what is right.

this is for Ukraine to resist so far as they can, with possibly calls of resistance to make Putins paranoia worse than it is already - never to be seen in public again I expect... surrounded by only those he knows already & only ever appearing again on TV....

I think the struggle to be free will be long & not until there is another Gorbachev in power will Ukraine & Russia have a chance to be free again.

Once they've established control I think the idiot in charge will fantasise about the former USSR states to the north - Lithuania, Latvia & Estonia.... that would bring NATO into the mire... & I think China would then decide Taiwan is ready for 'reunification'

With Russia.... Europe & the rest of the free world needs to stop their oil / gas - yes it will hit us too, however it is the only sanction that will affect those powerful enough to connect with the paranoid one.

The way to defeat Russia will be to completely cut them off from business. Their people will hopefully remove Putin themselves when it starts to bite.

Stop pussy footing about with the swift banking system etc and kick them out. Exclude from doing business with them at all.
India trying to use a different payment system so it can get fertiliser and China has a seperate deal with Russia for their gas. Russia will be okay .

Everything is risk assessed though - we're dealing with an aggressive player, whose motives we still don't understand and is in possession of the largest nuclear arsenal in the world. I can understand Western leaders taking decisions with extreme caution.

Voted No

It`s been mentioned many many times that this attack on Ukraine is unjustified.

Put NATO troops into a NON NATO country and we give Putin the excuse he`ll need to launch an even bigger attack on further countries that he deems are Russian

Estonia
Latvia
Lithuania
Moldova
Poland (Western)

Also I believe that if we send in NATO China will immediately invade Taiwan

Then it`ll be the end, because then nukes will be the only solution as all nations will be defending their own fronts and 1st strikes will be important

:(

See, this is what a lot of us worried about with the US/UK (warcrime) invasion of iraq. It sets a precedent. Who are we to argue about this invasion after an illegal invasion of Iraq that costs 100s of 1000s of lives and destabilised the entire planet? The UN was reduced to next to nothing. And is no use now.
There are millions of Ukrainians who are proud of their Russian heritage and openly support Putin. He has case to annex those regions through democratic means. He hasn't any excuse for what he has done, though.

Maniacs like David Davis should be strung up for the ridiculous comments he made about providing air support. This is a serving MP talking like some ill-informed p1ss pot you'd ignore in a pub.
This situation has been developing for years, even decades. Putin has bought his way in to our country; has cronies who have access to top level government by virtue of the fact they pump millions in tory purses; he's interfered in elections, particularly the orange vulgar waste of skin; interfered in the brexit vote.
Take a look at the orange excuse of a president: licking Putin's balls like some lap dog; calling him smart, genius. Because he is so clearly in Putin's pocket. The former US President a sycophant of the Russian president.
This has been coming and has been very well prepared for by Putin. Apparently, he has a war chest of 100s of billions so the sanctions would take a long, long time to have any effect.

Any military intervention would push us to World War 3. Maybe he would retreat if his bluff was called, but what if he didnt?

It's a definite 'no' from me. What's happing is horrific yet the guy is a lunatic and could easily start WW3.

I also presume anyone saying 'yes' either isn't in the military or have any loved ones who are serving.

I've seen on the military 'experts' on social media saying we should provide air support or boots on the ground. Yet do they even think that the first aircraft or troops launched from Europe will probably bring attacks on those bases. I imagine these 'experts' were covid 'experts' last month.

It's not like flying out to Afghanistan and fighting ISIS. This is an actual super power with one of the biggest armed forces in the world. They would also quite happily mobilise civilians to the cause (imagine trying to do that here?). You can't even get folk to stay in or wear a mask. That's not even mentioning the fact they are nuclear weapons.

This won't be a conflict like Iraq or Afghanistan if we get involved. Its a full on war.

Oh and I'm very much on the Navy recall list😔

The British army centres all of its training around fighting Russia, Afghanistan and Iraq is nothing to do with it and the whole concept has changed. Conventional war is our bread and butter.

If NATO are going to batter Russia can you please bring some crisps with you? The crisps here are seriously sh*te, it’s all cheese, sour cream and various fishy ones. Some salt and vinegar might go a long way to diffusing the situation.

I've found that everywhere in Eastern Europe, Estonia and Georgia the food is rank
