Kurt Zouma using his cat as a football

You’re having a proper nightmare here. So I can come round and put your dog in a chokehold as long as I don’t injure it, that’s okay?

Maybe sponsors don’t want people who abuse animals, representing their brand? How is that severe?

“Flicks the cat with his foot” and “slaps a cat” are so disingenuous that I have to believe you have an ulterior motive. Although that has been blatantly obvious by some of the stuff you’ve posted in response.
I'm not having a nightmare I'm posting on a message board and no you can't come round to my house and put my dog in a choke hold.

If you did I would call the RSPCA and the police, I wouldn't expect it to make the national news nor would I start a petition calling for you to spend four years in prison.

Clearly sponsors do not want to be associated with Kurt Zouma, as a footballer I think losing sponsorship of that kind would be a big deal.

Please feel free to believe that I have an ulterior motive.. some sort of anti-cat agenda? I'm clearly the crazy one here and deserve insults and accusations for daring to suggest that there has been an over reaction.

I understand what he's getting at but you can be dismayed at both. It's not one or the other.

If there was a video (so the wider general public can see it) of a footballer blatantly being racist I'm sure it would get a much bigger reaction
"I'm not condoning what he's done, but....."

As soon as I heard the but, that was enough for me. He's covertly trying to defend Zouma.

Not everyone is asking for Zouma to be sacked, many just feel the 'punishment' hasn't been severe enough. I'm sure if a footballer was racist there would be plenty of people calling for him to be sacked.

What is Antonio bringing racism for?
Different wrongs are not in competition with each other🤬
Racism has been brought into it and he makes a valid point. How long does racism stay in the game when a £250k fine is brought into the equation?

Racist footballer Luis Suarez (who was fined £40k for racial abusing Patrice Evra ) has a £1million per year boot deal with Puma..

What do you think the punishment should go up to? Based purely on the video.

West Ham fined Suarez £40k?

This is the ulterior motive btw, you’ve been trying to compare it to other things from the start.

Have a look on the news stands and look at which newspaper is running the story on the front page, watch the Thogden video and count the racist tropes they use, count how many times they mention 'OUR COUNTRY' and then we can talk about ulterior motives.

It’s an amazing thing when we can’t even all reach an agreement on animal abuse. Those playing it down or engaging acts of whataboutery, I can’t quite get my head around it. The villain here is Zouma. If you don’t want to lose your wages, your sponsorship deals, your reputation, then don’t abuse animals.

Those bringing race, rape, Qatari human rights, war, whatever else into it need to stop doing that. Those parallels were drawn on the Guardian’s Football Weekly podcast yesterday, which surprised me TBH. It’s perfectly possible to think Zouma deserves to be punished for his actions AND be appalled by other things at the same time.

For me it’s a straightforward issue. A person has abuse his cat and should be prosecuted for it. Fines, prison, loss of income, bans, whatever. If you don’t want those things to happen to you, then don’t abuse your cat.

There it is. You’re pathetic.
I'd like to see hefty fines and sponsors pulling out when it comes to acts of racism & homophobia.. if that's pathetic, then maybe you're right.

This week:

CHELSEA: Chelsea pay damages to four former youth players over racist abuse from coaches.
WEST HAM: A player kicks a cat.

Guess which brand Vitality drops?

It is pathetic because it’s completely irrelevant. Both are disgusting. You also can’t compare punishments from different clubs and brands.

Really poor from you this.

I am a strong anti-racist, but will animal abuse be brought up when the next racist incident occurs?

Antonios' comments have just as much of a racist undertone to them than anything Thogden said in his video in my opinion.

Feels to me as if Antonio is trying to imply that the media and general public are making a big deal out of what Zouma did because of the colour of his skin. That couldn't be further from the truth.

If a white British player did the same there would be just as much outrage. What would Antonio be saying then to defend his team-mate?

I think Antonio is spot on.

It not irrelevant, it's been brought up and it's noticeable. I can compare punishments from different clubs and brands, I can look at the whole picture and see something that doesn't sit right.

Vitality didn't drop West Ham because Zouma kicked a cat. They dropped West Ham as despite their words, they effectively condoned Zouma's actions by playing him on the very same day that this came out. Vitality quite understandably do not wish to be associated with a club that thinks animal abuse does not warrant a suspension.
