Fuel shortage

How do you que?
Say a garage has 6 pumps (2 each side) and there are cars at them all - Should you:
Just pull up behind one of the cars and wait, or
Wait at the entrance to the forecourt and wait for the first one to be free - Thereby making lots of other cars wait in the road!
I would do the first. Is that que jumping though?

Well from what I have seen and been told, you start queuing about a mile away from the garage, and providing the petrol station still has fuel by the time you actually get to the forecourt there is garage workers directing people to the pump.

We've strayed far from the conversation haven't we. At least I try to reference reference issue not just solely rely on personal insults like you.

I guess that's the difference between us.

I'm trying to work out from your post ''At least I try to reference reference issue not just solely rely on personal insults like you.

Ha,ha  are you for real, do you actually read what you write

You've called me an idiot, racist, simpleton, simple & wished people like me didnt excist

If we have plenty of fuel and they are blaming lack of drivers due to brexit , why wasn't there a fuel shortage 4 weeks ago or in June or May etc. The eu drivers were long gone by then. The garage at Blue Bell has had regular deliveries ever since brexit and I'm pretty sure they all had a driver in them.

Getting in more HGV drivers will not help the situation as tanker drivers have to have a further certificate for the dangerous cargo they are carrying.

Furthermore there are only slightly less tanker drivers now the there were before the pandemic or even Brexit (its only really BP that doesn't have enough tanker drivers).

The problem at the moment is everyone filling up their cars because they think there is a problem with a lack of HGV drivers and they will not be able to get their fuel.

Yes there is a lack of HGV drivers but NOT a lack of tanker drivers.

Once everyone has filled up their cars, jerry cans, plastic bags, whatever with fuel then things will get back to normal.

Where I work we off load millions of litres of diesel from ships to our storage tanks, drivers throughout 24 hours/7 collecting fuel

If people acted sensibly then we wouldn't be in this predicament

I don't really get into political discussions as I don't really follow politics beyond the very basics. What I think happened was BP made it public about supply issues and closing garages with this scenario in mind, people would panic buy, it would cause mayhem and then the government would have to step in and change things to recruit more drivers. I think what has played out was a black Adder and Baldric style plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.

So how's everyone doing for fuel. I'm OK, I managed to get down and fill up before most of the idiotic panic buyers got there
It was fine at the weekend - travelling down to Reading and back - seems to have snowballed since by the look of all the pics and news. I don't understand why.

I have a quarter of a tank left and will need some by Sunday, but I am expecting to be able to get some in the next day or so. We are still getting deliveries in our local garage.

Just briefly on the Brexit thing.

Brexit is not the sole cause of the driver shortage but to insist it is nothing to do with Brexit is, at best, disingenuous. To simplify it, if you need ten drivers to deliver fuel to ten garages. One driver leaves because he doesn't like the new tax laws, then another leaves because the pay is poor, one more retires and then Vlad the Hungarian driver goes back home after Brexit. The six drivers work the odd extra shift and everything keeps ticking along. Then a driver gets pinged and one catches COVID...

Which problem has caused the driver shortage?

As has been said this is pretty much all down to panic buying, my friend works at a storage facility in the NE and said yesterday alone tanker drivers lifted approx 3.5mill ltrs diesel, 1.5mill E10 and 225k Super for the forecourts, levels are up well above any time during the pandemic.

8 garages attempted yesterday and 9 today, all empty. Was out and about and going past 75% of them in any case so thought I’d fill up.

About 50 miles left, need to fill up to a) get to work and b) do a 250 mile round trip Sunday for university drop off.

At one point earlier I spotted a tanker and was 50/50 about turning around and following it….

I can wfh instead of going in the office, now thinking about plan b for uni, might have to book our son on the train then we’ll make a trip over with his stuff later.

I keep telling you, they're stealing the petrol! Particularly lucrative high octane.
On the subject of stealing fuel, we have had a few thefts in our village of fuel and while they have been at that they have taken peoples belongings, quite a bit of angst on our local facebook page of people taking 20p pieces out of ashtrays so people cant pump up their tyres.
