Ikpeazu

We performed how we wanted too, Warnock has come out and said we had a plan that we needed to keep it tight as basically we wouldn’t compete if we had more of a go early on as it suits them more and they have better players. The point we got is not a fluke, it’s because of a tactical decision and a well executed defensive performance after conceding the first goal. We ‘performed’ as we were instructed. No complaints from me because all I care about the result from such a difficult game like that and for me a point is a positive one. I would like to see a different approach next week at home to Bristol City and I’m sure we will. Hopefully we are in the ascendancy, every game is different.
We didn’t keep it tight though, we gave up good chances and just let them play their game. I would have praised Warnock if we had put in a performance like we did in some of these games last season but we didn’t. We were lucky to still be in the game when we got our chance. Most other decent sides would have killed the game before that

What are these good chances you speak of then? I remember a Kebano header from a cross and the Wilson volley in the first half before the goal. Anything else was just pot shots, funny you say we didn’t keep it tight, wasn’t Hall your man of the match? He played a big part in a great defensive block. As for most other decent teams wow come off it, Fulham have arguably the best squad in this division.

The goal we gifted, kebano header, the 1-1 then the follow up and the carvalho shot were clear scoring chances, plus a few half chances which are to be expected. 16 shots in total plus 66% possession.
I thought Hall was our best player personally, admittedly there wasn’t really much choice but he dealt with Mitro much better than I was expecting, been very surprised at how well he played last season after injury, could be a big player.

See I would say I would expect that amount of shots and possession away at Fulham. I certainly wouldn’t say we got battered. Just dealt with what they brought to us well and fairly comfortably. Agree on Hall, he’s class.

Today we got an excellent point and one that looked extremely unlikely with fifteen minutes left.
Fulham have a lot of talented players who controlled the match for long periods, but they were very much hanging on in the end.
I loved that last quarter and loved seeing young Jones flying like he did.
We looked so much better with Tav driving forward. Howson also came alive after Morsy went off.
Very good defensive performance.
Ikpeazu is what he is, a big honest lad who will battle all day. I am happy we have him but think he will be second choice by the end of August, as I think there will be two or three bits of quality recruited by then.
I can't wait to get back into the stadium next week.
I liked England doing well this summer, but there was no England goal that came close to the feeling when young Bola smashed that one home this afternoon.

absolutely this! Enjoyed the euros but celebrated that more than the goal in the final. Can’t wait for next week

I think its unfair to judge him on today's game, I'd like to see him playing in more dangerous areas, but we never got a foothold in the game until Tav came on.

His strength is a real bonus for us and if the supply is in the right areas, he'll score a few and create opportunities for the runners.

To be honest it was just refreshing to see a no.9 with physical presence who can win and hold the ball up.
100% imagine britt today. They would have just won every header and we would have been under the cosh all game.
All he could do was battle 3/4 quarters the way up the pitch. Made it hard for their CBS. All u can ask.

Football fans are absolute clowns sometimes. Uche is getting hammered by some despite trying hard. A player can have limitations and still do well.

I can't hammer a player who gives 100%. I mean what else can they do? I'd rather that than Britt trundling around half ars#d.

It's not just Boro fans. I fully imagine this time next week for Chelsea fans to be moaning about Lukaku having a sh*t first touch or City fans saying Grealish 'goes down to easy' 😂

How can anyone judge a player after 55mins of a debut? I mean if its October and he's not scored them maybe. I don't think you can judge anyone for at least a month or 6 weeks as it's a new club. I thought he looked a right handful. I imagine the two Fulham CBs were well made up when he went off.

He’s been brought in to be the Heskey to a Muniz and he will be very effective in such a duo. Maybe he is limited but if he gives 100% like today he will do for me and will definitely cause many lesser a team than Fulham problems. UTB

I think Ikpeazu will get 12 - 15 goals this season and be involved in many more. I thought he looked promising today and with a couple of new recruits, and Tavernier and Payero on the pitch, I actually think he's a key player for us this season.

I think given a nippy goal scorer in the quinn /Phillips mould he could do a really good job at beating up defences whilst leaving those around to feed off him and bag goals...he could be perfect for us given 1 or 2 additional signings ...
He won't score more than 5 or 6 goals this year at a push...but he will definitely be a very good target man...all in all I'm happy to have the big man on board the Warnock express....
Welcome uche....))

I'd like to see someone right up alongside him, to play off him. Watmore seemed to be miles away from him and Uche was winning things and there was no one to pick up the pieces.
Yep, he looked a good 'biggun' in the Heskey & Owen and Phillips & Quinn style partnership.

We need the 'littleun' to get near enough to him to help out, anticipate his flicks and knock downs and maybe pull another defender away with some clever running to give Ikpeazu a chance.

He was scrapping two on his own quite often, and got very little from the referee.

A Delap/Gayle/Endozi/Jones/Sivi being right up near him and having enough time to develop an understanding will see him flourish IMO.

People are judging his 55 minutes and making a prediction. I mean it’s a football forum for gods sake

I think he looks like a dud. Like the keeper. I hope both prove me wrong.

people are going to see things differently too, otherwise we wouldn’t have anything to discuss

It’s wrong to judge someone after 55 minutes. In fact it’s really childish almost. Give him a chance. If we don’t give him that then he will fail.

I liked him, I love to watch a Boro player give his all, whether it be a Juniho, Gary Hamilton, Robbie Mustoe, Iain Baird or Uche, give me an honset pro like Uche anyday of the week to a Assombalonga, Fletcher, Gestede

I agree with indeedido, once we have the players in who NW is chasing then Uche will be used sparingly, but when he will be used he'll give his all, not smile when putting a penalty over the bar or cant be bothered performing

People are judging the 55 mins alone and making an assessment of what they think. They are not totally judging him.

shall we not start any threads about any players until they have 10 appearances

I think some of the comments were a bit over the top though. For a debut away at Fulham.

One of the issues for me today, as mentioned above, is that the two in behind him (Watmore and Crooks) stayed very wide. We know Fulham have pacy, attacking full backs so I'm sure we were trying to limit their effectiveness. In games where we anticipate having more of the ball I'd expect our wing backs to push up higher, in effect forcing Watmore and Crooks inside and enabling some closer possession based play between the front three.

I think there were signs of this happening late in the game when Jones had forced their RB backwards allowing Tav to drop into spaces higher up the pitch.

I agree to some extent, I think much better quality possession based teams can do it but we might struggle.

I'd be interested in seeing Tav and Payero in behind Uche.

I do wonder if Crooks will eventually be used more as a centre mid when we've got a few more in.
