That was such a typical performance of England in a major championship. The players just seemed to expect to score, didn’t seem up for it at all.
As for Southgate, it was obvious at half time the tactics were wrong. To change nothing at half time, and then just change personnel and not tactics as the game went was criminal. He showed tactically he’s learnt nothing and can’t change games that aren’t going his teams way.
Compare today to the Belgium - Denmark game, Belgium were poor and outfought for large parts, but 2 moments of quality changed the game and won it for them. England don’t have that.
Well tbf they did have it against Croatia. That was such a typical performance of England in a major championship. The players just seemed to expect to score, didn’t seem up for it at all.

That’s a fair point but we did actually start the second half quite well. If he’d then gone all out to win on 65 minutes we could have risked losing the game and for what? A draw isn’t that bad a result if you take away the “Auld Enemy” aspect.I can understand why he went with Rice and Phillips again after the Croatia game but in hindsight we only needed one of them starting this game, especially when you consider we were favourites to win.
I can forgive Southgate for starting with them but not for his decision to persist with both of them for the full game.
It wasn’t the result, it was the performance. Players just didn’t look up for it and looked bereft of ideas. That’s a fair point but we did actually start the second half quite well. Its debatable whether we should even want to win on Tuesday.
In truth I didn’t expect there to be. To us it’s just a draw in a group we might easily win. To them it’s the opportunity to humiliate us and give themselves an outside chance of going through. Their fans are dancing in the fountains at drawing 0-0 with us whereas if we’d won 3-0 people would have said “yeah but it’s only Scotland”.It wasn’t the result, it was the performance. Scotland would always be up for it and make it difficult, there just didn’t seem to be that same desire from England.
Yeah, fair to say 0-0 would always be a poor performance from an England point of view.In truth I didn’t expect there to be. To us it’s just a draw in a group we might easily win. No performance would have been good enough tonight if the result was only 0-0.
Agree about Kane. Dropping deep has worked for Spurs for him but it hasn’t worked at this tournament. It’s as if he wants to somehow shoulder the most responsibility as captain but he’d be better off just playing the goalpoacher role he used to play well and let the chances come to him. Yes he looks as though he might not even be fully fit. Given that a draw on Tuesday isn’t a “bad” result I’d be tempted to rest him on Tuesday.Yeah, fair to say 0-0 would always be a poor performance from an England point of view.
Individually picking out Harry Kane, is he playing with an injury? In both games he’s looked so completely off the pace, his general movement looks slow and awkward. He needs to stop dropping deep as he’s not having any impact on the game, he’d be better off just getting himself in the box.
