Message from Gareth Southgate - Dear England

A letter from the heart, you can maybe read such letters off other manager, players & think someone's wrote that for him, that he doesn't mean half of that but with Southgate you know he's a genuine guy, who means every word in that letter

I'm not too fussed at watching any England games but for Southgate, I hope his team go all the way 👍

I never thought Gareth was a bad manager for us, the last season he should have brought in a Venables type mentor from January and sir Steve pulled the trigger a bit too early on him in the championship. I thought he did well in the world cup to the point where I reconnected with the team after the bling/ wags/ Becks/Stevie G era of failure. Hope he does well in the euros.

However that does not make him a good manager and his managerial ability is not in the same league as Sir Bobby. That is what he will be judged on as manager of England.
why? DO you realise he has a far superior record in tournaments and in total to Bobby? Some rose tinted glasses you've got on there.

Southgate has inherited a team that had a couple of failed 'superstars' who had stopped a generation of players getting any game time, a team bereft of confidence and lacking the ability to play a technical game. The young players respect him, he is a people person, articulate, passionate, and trusted, a world away from the previous incumbents.

He has transformed that, we are now one of the top 5 technical sides in the world, some fans can't quite understand that, but that's on them really. There has always been an effort above skill and tactics attitude to the English fan. I guess it's from the historical roots of the game as the game of the working classes, which isn't always the same in other countries. Anyway, we are a much better proposition and I can see us winning a trophy in the next 3 competitions unless Southgate gets hounded out, unbelievably there are people out there that think Big Fat Sam is a better manager and England would be better with him in charge. 🤷‍♂️

Lovely letter that. I'm much more invested in the England side with Southgate managing than I would have been with Big Fat Sam.

I'm not sure what those decrying Southgate's management are basing it on tbh. How can you tell? He managed us more than 10 years ago, I'm sure he's changed a lot in that time. Results wise he's done as well as any England manager in my lifetime getting us to a world cup semi final.

Have people just completely forgotten McLaren and the golden generation not even qualifying for 2008?

Yes, but Sir Bobby crucially managed in the past. And the past is better.

Bit of context. Preceeding Southgate, we were ranked 15th in the world drew with Scotland and Slovenia in qualifying, and struggled to 1 goal wins against Slovenia, Slovakia (twice) and Lithuania. We lost to Iceland and drew with Slovakia and Russia in a world cup less than 2 years before Southgate.

The change is huge

Get with the program fellas he proved he was useless in them hugely important friendlies at the riverside. Even if we have a great tournament it won't matter we'll have just gotten away with it.

I'm joking just in case of confusion by the way.

First of all, why are so angry all the time ? What don't you understand about other people having a different opinion to yourself 🤡

Secondly...... no he hasn't. Not yet, at least not in the International competitions that count i.e.. World Cup and European Championships.

Gareth:
2018 World Cup Semi-finalists. (4th Place)

Sir Bobby:
1986 World Cup 1/4-final.
1988 European Championship group stage.
1990 World Cup Semi-finalists (4th place)

Also Sir Bobby's club record puts him way ahead of Southgate as a manager.
1978 Ipswich Town FC - FA Cup winners
1981 Ipswich Town FC - UEFA Cup winners
1991 PSV League Title
1892 PSV League Title
1995 Porto - League and Cup Double
1996 FC Barcelona. Spanish Cup, Spanish Super Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup i
1997 Voted European Manager of the Year (1996-1997 season)

I'd say that record makes him a far better manager.... and that is fact not opinion.

Basically the difference between Southgates england and other managers England is they can win penalty shootouts.
The difference between England and teams that do better in the past was mainly that England lost their penalty shootouts.
Next thing he needs to manage is beating a decent team in the knockout rounds. No one's ever done that before, with the possible exception of Belgium in 90.
