Any idea what is involved in setting up a production unit? Let's just say acquiring machinery, raw materials and a location is not a five minute exercise. If Taiwan could set up new production units it could only be because they had the means to do so. The UK clearly did not because much of UK manufacturing has been outsourced.
Taiwan is ahead of the curve because they didn't believe a word China said. While China was saying Covid-19 was not infectious, Taiwan was shutting down travel to China. They told the WHO in December they had proof it was infectious, but the WHO ignored them and spouted Chinese propaganda. It was late January before there was any comment from the WHO that the disease was infectious, by which time the UK already had cases. Had Europe behaved similarly to Taiwan there would be no pandemic.
However around that same period the CPP, despite knowing the virus was highly infectious, allowed unrestricted travel from Wuhan to the rest of the globe, and tens of thousands of Chinese left China for the rest of the world. Many traveled to northern Italy (where 100,000 Chinese textile workers live).
There is only one entity to blame for the current mess, and it is the Chinese Communist Party, who are now leveraging their might to influence nations by donating small quantities (relatively) of PPE.
Bear in mind that China is beyond using its economic power to control western media. Try the Joe Rogan, Melissa Chen Youtube interview for background.
