Matt Hancock and the pantomime of PPE

ahh ok I see now why I was misunderstanding you - thanks for your patience ( appreciate its hard work)

no certainly through this thread I now see that the gvt are indeed at fault and it looks as you have said like we will have one of the worst responses. Not great I thought from their daily briefings that a lot of action was being taken, I was impressed with the Nightingale Hospital. However with the PPE issues it seems the response was poor. However the truth is in the numbers and they don’t lie.

thanks for your help through this.

One request though please don’t call me thick, troll etc when I am asking questions. Happy to be corrected but no need for all the other stuff!
Apologies for the name calling. I Shouldn’t have said it

Please tell me you're trolling now? I don't want to believe you're that stupid. Ok I'll humour you in case you are that thick.

Do you think it hit the UK the same time as it hit China? Or Taiwan? Or Japan? South Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore etc.... That's what you seem to be saying.
I genuinely believe it was spread round the world long before the cases started spiking.

Interesting to see that the nurse unions are now openly questioning if their members should risk their lives in such dangerous conditions.

nurses ( and doctors) have been thrown to the wolves over this and it’s a complete scandal.
Zorro you are not wrong mate

Yeah but Priti Patel is really sorry they feel like this and Mr Hancöck says they’re working really hard to get them more PPE (as long as they don’t use it frivolously)

If you replace Nurses with Soldiers and Pandemic with Conflict Zone, somebody would have to be investigated, probably court martialed and the Government would be getting sued by war widows.

As a nation we can surely do better than this.

Or you could have been smart and got in there early before most other countries
Unfortunately China made sure that wasn't possible. In January while they were telling the world (and the WHO also) that the virus wasn't infectious, they were busy buying up 2.2 billion masks from around the world, along with other PPE. There was almost no inventory anywhere in the world once they'd finished.

Now they release some of this stock slowly to other nations to buy influence.

It's not just the UK that is having problems. Any country that relied on China or on any of the other 74 nations with export bans, is having a hard time.

We're paying for the mistakes of governments over the past 30 years that offshored critical equipment manufacture to China and elsewhere.

BR I think people are paying with their lives for more reasons than offshoring manufacturing.

E mail from Dominic Cummings to Tory MPs and activists - blame China, the Brexiters will be happy to buy this.
I’ve read a few times today in various quarters, now that our deaths are soaring out of control and the NHS is short of PPE, that this is China’s fault.
I expect this Tory message to be on overdrive in the coming months.

Taiwan established 62 NEW production units
Any idea what is involved in setting up a production unit? Let's just say acquiring machinery, raw materials and a location is not a five minute exercise. If Taiwan could set up new production units it could only be because they had the means to do so. The UK clearly did not because much of UK manufacturing has been outsourced.

Taiwan is ahead of the curve because they didn't believe a word China said. While China was saying Covid-19 was not infectious, Taiwan was shutting down travel to China. They told the WHO in December they had proof it was infectious, but the WHO ignored them and spouted Chinese propaganda. It was late January before there was any comment from the WHO that the disease was infectious, by which time the UK already had cases. Had Europe behaved similarly to Taiwan there would be no pandemic.

However around that same period the CPP, despite knowing the virus was highly infectious, allowed unrestricted travel from Wuhan to the rest of the globe, and tens of thousands of Chinese left China for the rest of the world. Many traveled to northern Italy (where 100,000 Chinese textile workers live).

There is only one entity to blame for the current mess, and it is the Chinese Communist Party, who are now leveraging their might to influence nations by donating small quantities (relatively) of PPE.

Bear in mind that China is not beyond using its economic power to control western media. Try the Joe Rogan, Melissa Chen Youtube interview for background.

I hope that the Tory Party is paying you for that shight?
Never voted Tory in my life.

If the US, Canada, France, Italy, Spain and India etc etc can't buy masks, why do you think the UK could buy masks? 75 countries have export bans on PPE equipment.

China effectively nationalised all mask production in the country, and turned around ships containing masks.
