EFL season can be completed in 56 days

On the other hand it would be much needed morale boosting entertainment, especially if it was on free to air.

It's more about money than fans anyway.
I get your statement about the ‘morale boosting’ but do you really think Rick Parry and co are looking at the well-being of the public.

There is no way it will be shown for free, the league have commitments to Sky and co. Season ticket holders might get it for nothing.

It is all about money.

No I don't think they'll

Football is all about the money anyway. I don't care what their motivations are.

I for one would love to see match of the day back on the box. It could be a year and a half before we can have football matches played before crowds again. And when we do there won't be any over 70s diabetics or asthmatics in attendance.

I just think you’ve gone fishing now.

I just think you’ve gone fishing now.

Why? I'm not fishing at all? I've been cooped up inside for weeks and weeks and would love to see some football again. How's that looking for bites? People have different opinions about stuff. If you feel strongly they shouldn't play behind closed doors that's fine. I don't agree.

It won’t be football though, not really as it will be sterile sanitised exercise purely a functional thing (did you see any of the serie a games played behind closed doors?)

It’s football for footballs sake.

I watched the start of one of the Europa games and turned it off.

Sky, BT and Virgin must be losing a fortune with people like myself choosing to put their sports package on hold until sports start again.

Plenty of games have been played behind closed doors in the past and if the integrity of the competition is maintained and is the start of the process toward normality then go for it, removing the lockdown program is going to take a long time and we have to accept that playing sport in front of live crowds is going to be towards the back end of the process, if we can safely and without impacting on the NHS’s efforts get sport played sooner then in my opinion we should, if anyone turns up at the stadium, £50k fine and life football banning order, there are ways that the games can be broadcast and it seems sensible to dip your toe in the water to restart sport and many fans through one thing or another can’t attend games anyway, the stadium going supporter while absolutely vital is the only sector of football support who this impacts on.

It’s not ideal, far from it, but it gets things moving in the right direction.

Croatia v England was behind closed doors last year and it was horrible to watch.

Worse than a friendly.

But we're not in a perfect situation, obviously that wouldn't be first choice but we're not in that position.

Of course it wouldn't be great, but would it be better than:-

1) People dying
2) No game

They're the alternatives really, unless you do the really sensible thing and wait until this is all over completely and we can start "as normal"

I’ve said it before ( on a prev thread a few weeks ago) but I think we will be in trouble as we will have team compromised of if loanees ( what happens there) wantaways and let’s be honest not the most committed to the cause players.

I’d be worried I’ll be honest.

It might well cost us but at least it will be on the pitch that our fate is decided, given that we are supposedly impatient fans according to opposition managers who look to frustrate us at home then we might suddenly play with more freedom and end up safe.

I suppose if we were in the bottom three and the option was a compromise behind closed doors completion to the season or relegation we’d be keener for it to go ahead.

More breaking news from conference this time

The National League has advised clubs in its three divisions to vote in favour of ending the regular season without playing games that were scheduled up to 25 April.

If the vote passes, clubs will then be asked to help "determine the outcomes of the season" through further polls.

National League clubs to be asked to vote on plan to end season

That would be York promoted

Voiding the season is unfair on a small number of clubs almost certain of winning or progressing. e.g.Liverpool. Does that matter that much in the grand scheme of things?

Resuming this season whenever "safe" is ridiculous. What exactly is so crucial about one season in history?
Resume the sport with crowds in a new season when it is safe to do so.
Play a very small number of matches without crowds between clubs with something to play for based on current positions. Do this before the start of next season.

I still receive Sky Sports but don't pay for it as there is nothing to watch. Contact them, they will not contact you. They will have to win me back again in the future.
Clubs can't sustain their spending with out media and sponsorship. That revenue can't come in without the sport taking place. Clubs will stop without revenue.
The vast majority of the revenue is spent on players and agents.
Players and agents simply can not be paid at their current rate.
The argument that they generate the money so should get the benefit should really come home to roost now.
The model has to be significantly changed.
I don't care if my favourite player doesn't get his £30k this week, or whether Ozil gets his £400k.
I don't care if Sky doesn't get the subscriptions to pay the Clubs so they can pay those players.
I do care that decisions on the future of football are based on sustaining a seriously flawed model.
It really doesn't matter how this season ends, but we really should be focusing on how to best start again, not how best to just carry on.

I tend to agree its with crowds or no games. (with season cancelled or current positions accepted as final)

Could the play offs be cancelled and go for top 3 after 46 games?. This would take about 3 weeks off the season's length.

Start 2020/21 late and cancel the League Cup and minor cups for 2020/21 and International friendlies, to shorten the season - people's lives are much more important.

VERY provisional plan

Season restart mid to late June

Season finish end July to early August

Start next season Mid September.

This assumes most of lock down finishes sometime in May

Most of China was in lock down for about 6/7 weeks if that can be used a valid model that would take over lock down to us around May 2nd/9th . Although in Wuhan/Hubei province it was more like 10 weeks that would take us to around 26th May, before players could even train together. I would be more tempted to go with a 10 week lock down.

If deaths are still happening (above isolated cases) we can't significantly finish lock down. We also need tests available to check if someone has had it and also many more tests to test if people have got it etc.

Lock down in China was a very different model to the one here I think and I assume they controlled the spread of virus more effectively as a result. Expect 6/7 weeks to be the minimum (although the pressure on the economy may necessitate a lessening of the lock down before it's completely safe to do so).
