Are people still living in St Hildas?I think this decision by our closest neighbour is particularly worrying as this will no doubt magnify the issue over the border as well.

This implies there isn’t a supply problem, there is and many people are dying as a result. To restrict supply further will result in more deaths. There is no reasonable logic to it and the balance of precaution is being incorrectly applied.Deaths from vaccinations are incredibly rare. Possibly some children with the polio vaccine but virtually none from flu vaccinations. It's always taken very seriously as even though the benefits are huge, any possibility of a death are taken very seriously. In this instance, I guess they believe the balance of precaution should take precedence. They have alternatives available, albeit coming through so slowly.
Wouldn’t the WHO be all over this if there was an issue though, rather than an individual country decision.I think the precautionary health measure is to avoid cutting off their nose to spite their face.
I agree it's a big decision but, in normal times, any concerns over a vaccine would stop it's use. Ireland have already announced far greater restrictions than us through to the summer and have alternative vaccines being delivered and on order to allow this temporary pause.
The story is a bit strange when you read the Irish Times report, which cites a Norwegian health report. The Norwegian concerns have been with the Pfizer vaccine as that was the only vaccine they had access to.Wouldn’t the WHO be all over this if there was an issue though, rather than an individual country decision.
There is concern in Italy due to 3/4 deaths from blood clots after the AZ vaccine. They haven't concluded that it is caused by the vaccine but are carrying out autopsies which is sensible. They also linked the deaths to a particular batch of 1 million doses which went to several countries. They have temporarily suspended their vaccination programmesA danish report said it may cause blood clots
The EU hasn't said that though have they?If the EU don't want the AZ vaccines I am sure lots of other countries in the world will.
I had the AZ vaccine this morning. They really do follow the Eu on everything don’t they.

“It has not been concluded that there is any link between the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca and these cases. However, acting on the precautionary principal, and pending receipt of further information, the NIAC has recommended the temporary deferral of the Covid-19 vaccine AstraZeneca vaccination programme in Ireland. ”
The NIAC will meet again on Sunday morning and issue a further statement after.

The European Union's most senior administrator said she would happily receive AstraZeneca's coronavirus vaccine as officials rushed to find ways of ensuring doses refused by skittish Germans did not go to waste.
President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen's remarks came amid growing concerns that unfavourable comments by top European officials including French President Emmanuel Macron had slowed take-up of one of only three vaccines currently approved EU-wide.
Earlier this month, Macron said Britain had taken a risk in authorising AstraZeneca so rapidly. A German official study also found evidence that, though effective, the vaccine has more severe side effects than its two main rivals.
