I must have missed something here, when did we change the miles on roadsigns to km?
I think if we give them 25.4mm they would take 1,609,344mmI think if we give the EU an inch, they’ll take a mile.
but only in Scotland.Scotch eggs are going to be legal tender when we end the transition period.
Where they will be called "Scottish Eggs"but only in Scotland.
Buy fuel in litres, measure fuel economy in miles per gallon.Air travel is still an exotic mix of the two systems, though, height in feet, speed in knots, everything else metric Just as well it seems to work
Yup, we still use it over here. Still don't know why a US pint is 16floz though and not 20...
I get that but why is the Imperial pint larger?Isn't it because a Pint is an eigth of a Gallon? Our Gallon is bigger so our pints are bigger? Although I suppose the why is it different just applies to the gallon then!
I've worked in aviation and offshore engineering (using radiation) that both use a mix of both metric and imperial.
SI units are infinitely superior in most respects I find. I still don't ever use pascal or bar naturally though, they just don't roll off the tongue.
Does my head in that one. Then I have to think about imperial gallons v US gallons.Buy fuel in litres, measure fuel economy in miles per gallon.
Units of 12 are divisible by 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6. Perfect.I've always thought we had decimal systems due to having ten digits.
Why are older systems based on 12? Do they originate in sunderland?
I wish we would RobI must have missed something here, when did we change the miles on roadsigns to km?
No wonder the Americans are terrible at engineering! My last job at KBR in the States was in imperial.
We should use Kelvins for temperature, much more positive, when its freezing it would still be an upbeat 273 degrees.Metric is fine for engineering and scientific uses, but Imperial is far more useful in every day life like for shopping. And Fahrenheit is a much more precise and useful temperature scale for domestic life.
I think Fahrenheit himself was dutch or German...Miles for distance travelled, nice to see a return to feet but just for heights and contours on OS maps. As for Fahrenheit ....... it's absolute cack ........ we are not America's poodle, quote, unquote.
That started brexit prob before we were even in the EU or common market as wasI remember switching from imperial to metric in 3rd year infants.
I still have an old school book somewhere with all my sums in £, shillings and d.
Then the next day we had gone decimal.
And that was that.
Because the Yanks are shandy drinkers!I get that but why is the Imperial pint larger?
